Because some people need reminding! I was recently told I don’t have the proper vocal range for a role firmly in the bass-baritone repertoire. With a high note of G4 (sol) and a low of F2 (fa), I’m not sure whether they believe it’s too high or too low for me, but as I shared my high C5 (do) yesterday, I have to assume it’s the latter. Still scratching my head at the rationale… #makeitmakesense #lownotes #bassbaritone #lownote #vocalrange #sheetmusic #cadenza #belcanto #bass #basso #bassoprofondo #vocalchameleon #opera #operasinger #operasingersofinstagram #reels #reelsinstagram by @aahrealbassbaritone

Pardon the humble brag, but I just thought Bb was an abbreviation for Bass-baritone!

Yeah high B-flat, big whoop, wanna fight about it? It’s a party trick I’ve never incorporated for the stage, but I’m pulling out all the stops for Mustafà. I also go down to low E-flat below the bass clef during the act 1 finale making the evening’s range two octaves and a fifth.

The vocal fach system likes to put singers into a box and I’ve felt very strongly the label bass-baritone applies best to me. I sing stronger low notes than most baritones and my voice doesn’t sit well in the high tessitura baritones are often asked to inhabit. Long story short, there are many individuals who break the mold. Go forth and make a joyful noise unto the cords because fach is fake. If it feels healthy, it’s probably fine. #soapbox #soapoperabox

Hadestown Chant Reprise if they cast Hades as an opera singer. I’ve been enjoying messing around with my low notes during the spooky season. What’s your favorite part that Hades sings? #hadestown #hades #chant #bass #bassbaritenor taken in Merritt Island by @aahrealbassbaritone

#tbt when I was a young artist with Opera Colorado and the first of many “Impossible Trios.” @nickkreider sings the top line and Heath Martin the middle while I’m holding down the bass part. As we approach my 60th deal, congrats to Ron on his new Ram 1500 RHO. He got a great deal on a barely used 2027 truck and brought us some bagels as a thank you! Everyone ate on this deal 🥯

Had someone ask for this song from Hadestown when I posted my last reel. Great art holds a mirror up to society and this show does just that. It’s a dream role and I’ve got just enough vocal fry to sing the title role. Hopeful it comes my way at some point! Come What May Ending if it was an opera. Been a fan of the movie since it came out when I was in middle school. 13 year-old me would never have dreamed high G (sol) would be a note I could sing let alone all the higher ones that have blossomed in recent years. Let me know what you want to hear in me sing in the opera garage next! #bassbaritenor #opera #moulinrouge #comewhatmay #operagarage taken in Boniface Hiers Chrysler Dodge Jeep by @aahrealbassbaritone

What’s October without a bit of Hades? Showing off some of my extreme low notes in “Hey Little Songbird” from Hadestown.

It’s become one of my favorite musicals and you all need the occasional reminder why I’ve worked as a bass-baritone for the last 15 years. I’m loving the exploration of what my high notes can be, but will never forget where I came from.

Ever since my voice dropped at age 12, I’ve relished the sensations singing low notes brings. Having the person who sat in front of me in choir tell me how they can feel the vibrations coming through their chair when I sing below the bass clef or seeing the sheet music I’m reading literally blur from the resonance of my voice making my skull vibrate are experiences only a bass can appreciate.

What do you recall from when your voice changed? #bass #hades #hadestown #lownotes #bassbaritenor by @aahrealbassbaritone

A new chapter in the Corvette Saga! Congratulations to Jimmy on getting this beautiful 2016 Corvette. I thought the first one looked like the Batmobile, but this one definitely gives Batman vibes. Thanks for working with me!

The most operatic version of “Till I Hear You Sing” from Love Never Dies in the Opera Garage! Another month has come and gone which is how progress is measured at the dealership. I’m proud to be on this journey and hopeful it will lead to a return to the stage sooner than later. Let’s have a great October! #loveneverdies #tillihearyousing #phantom #phantomoftheopera #andrewlloydwebber by @aahrealbassbaritone

New phantom clip from the bassiest phantom you know! The opera garage isn’t exactly a dungeon, but it’s certainly cavernous and treacherous, at least when the techs are hard at work. #phantom #phantomoftheopera #andrewlloydwebber #operagarage #bassbaritenor by @aahrealbassbaritone
