Did you know? 🎬

The first full-length Chinese animated feature film is Princess Iron Fan (1941).It is also considered the first Asian animated feature film. The film is based on an episode of the novel, Journey to the West (16th edition). It was directed in Shanghai in difficult conditions as it was during World War II. The film had a great influence on the development of East-Asian animation.

Did you know? 🎬

The Host (2006), a horror/ sci-fi film directed by Bong Joon Ho was the first film to win best film at the Asian Film Awards in 2007. The film depicted an unidentified monster that appears in a river in Seoul years after chemicals have been poured into it. It kills hundreds of people and abducts a local family’s daughter. The film follows a family that decides to try to save her. Bong Joon Ho was actually discouraged before making this film by his peers and told not to make the film due to the stigma around monster movies.

Jaws (1975) release transformed the film industry. Its popularity created the modern blockbuster model. It singlehandedly established summer as the best season to release projects, which was not the case prior. Before 1975, studios thought summer was the worst season to release films. Instead, they preferred to release films gradually and expanded week by week based on audience responses and popularity. However, Jaws release raked in so much profit that studios rethought their approach, changing the industry forever.
