My exhibition “Silencio en el fondo” is officially over! I have so much gratitude for this experience and for everyone I had the opportunity to meet and spend time with during my 6 weeks in Austin, especially @jillmclennon @mclennon_pen_co_ 🖤 thank you Jill for trusting me as your artist-in-residence, for providing so many resources, and for being an amazing business partner!!!

Here is my favorite and most personal piece from my show, which shows my gestures of handpainting and subsequent erosion process I use in order to keep my painting for myself 🖤

My show “Silencio en el fuego” is open at @mclennon_pen_co_ in Austin until Oct. 11th. Please contact the gallery for inquires!

This painting marks a wish and a fear, gestures towards death y un deseo de volver al agua.
I began this piece by handpainting a place close to my heart and a wish for my body. To keep it for myself, I eroded the image using sandpaper and solvents.
I placed the scene underwater and kept two light sources: one from the cave’s opening on the top left and one from my own body (or from the viewer if you’re standing in front of the painting).

I am often asked about my ring motif. Its meaning has changed over time, but I mostly think of it as an eye, a lens, or a way to mark a time and place just as you may circle a word on a page or a spot on a map.

Photographer Gideon Tsang recently came by McLennon Pen Co. to photograph Aineki Traverso, our 2026 Summer Artist-in-Residence.

It’s always interesting to see one artist look at another’s work, and the unexpected conversations that come out of that exchange.

Aineki Traverso’s exhibition 𝘚𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘰 𝘦𝘯 𝘦𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘰, featuring new works made during the residency, opens this Saturday, September 12, from 6–9pm.

Next Saturday, September 12, from 6–9pm, we will open “𝙎𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙤 𝙚𝙣 𝙚𝙡 𝙛𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙤” 𝗯𝘆 𝗔𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗸𝗶 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼 with a reception at McLennon Pen Co. We welcome everyone to join us.

Aineki Traverso is our 2026 Summer Artist-in-Residence, visiting from Atlanta. Throughout the month of August, they have been working in the gallery to create fifteen new paintings in a range of sizes, as well as a small installation.

Tonight from 6-9pm, we will open “Silencio en el fondo” by Aineki Traverso with a reception at @mclennon_pen_co_

Aineki Traverso is our 2026 Summer Artist-in-Residence, visiting from Atlanta.

Throughout the month of August, Aineki has been working in the gallery to create sixteen new paintings for the exhibition. Each work in “Silencio en el fondo” finds ground in a literal or conceptual horizon, responding to landscapes that are both personal and found. Aineki engages in the lineage of historical Western and Eastern landscape painting while enacting processes that respond to the dialectics of space and body studied by such theorists as Jose Munoz, Judith Butler, and Anne Carson.

“It is impossible to return to the same place in time, but some have the ability to make an object that contains the past, and we continue to do so compulsively. As long as we maintain this practice of making, we keep ourselves alive. Here, painting is a love letter and an elegy not only for the inevitable or for an impossible body, but for every body that could not say goodbye, for every body who could not choose their time or place. ”
