In Urdu-Persian poetry, Shama (the candle) and Parwana (the moth) symbolize a love so intense that it embraces destruction. The Parwana is irresistibly drawn to the Shama's light, knowing that getting too close will burn him, yet he chooses love over survival. The Shama shines silently, while the Parwana sacrifices himself in devotion—making them eternal symbols of unrequited love, longing, and selfless passion.
This timeless metaphor has inspired countless Bollywood songs and ghazals, where lovers are often compared to the Shama and Parwana: one who captivates, and one who is willing to lose everything for love.
This poem is my tribute to that eternal tale—where love is not measured by possession, but by devotion. 🕯️🦋
