Most people don’t break under pressure.
They function.
They show up.
They perform.
And silently… they disconnect from themselves.
That’s the part we don’t talk about.
I’ll be speaking at the Global Mental Health Systems Congress 2026 on:
Real-time psychological regulation under pressure. Not as a theoretical discussion.
But from the perspective of something that was built in real conditions —
through chronic pain, high-performance environments, and psychological overload.
The question behind my work is simple:
How do you maintain clarity, identity, and function…
when pressure doesn’t stop?
This is the foundation of the Mind Locker Method™ (an original psychological method published in Qualitative Health Research and indexed on PubMed). A non-pharmacological approach focused on: real-time, regulation, identity preservation, high-functioning adaptation.

Mental health systems are evolving. But there is still a gap between:
what we understand and what people can actually use in the moment they need it most. That’s the space I’m working in.
Looking forward to contributing to this conversation

Heartbreak can activate some of the same brain regions involved in physical pain. When we experience emotional rejection, grief, betrayal, abandonment, or deep disappointment, the brain can activate stress and pain-related networks.

That’s one reason why heartbreak can affect:
sleep; appetite; concentration; motivation; emotional regulation; even physical energy.

Emotional pain is real.
And understanding it can change the way we treat ourselves and others. And also know where to get help.

But with mental health content
growing rapidly online, it’s important to check whether information comes from qualified and evidence-based sources. And is really related with what you are going through.

Tell me honestly, what was your first reaction when you read those comments?

What do you feel first?/ Judgment? / Discomfort?
/Anger? /Or curiosity?

Because behind those sentences there’s often something we don’t see.

-Exhaustion.
-Loss of identity.
-Lack of support.

Pressure to be everything, all the time.
Motherhood is often romanticized!
But rarely spoken about in its full complexity.
And when women dare to say:

-‘I’m struggling’ or even ‘I regret’

They’re not always rejecting their children.
Sometimes, they’re expressing pain in a space where they don’t feel safe to say it any other way.

Understanding matters.
But so does responsibility.
Because unprocessed pain
doesn’t disappear.
It gets passed on.
And children should never have to carry
the weight of a decision
they didn’t make.

Letting go is something I had to learn and practice over the years, especially growing up in a culture where holding on to people and relationships was often seen as a responsibility. Today, as a psychologist, I help my patients navigate that same journey. And one thing I always emphasize is that therapy is about process and progress, not perfection.

Learning to let go means recognizing what people bring into your life, what they take from you, and when the emotional cost becomes greater than what the relationship gives.

It also means understanding that you can love someone and still choose to love them from a distance. Love does not mean giving someone unlimited access to your life, especially when their actions repeatedly hurt you. Setting boundaries and letting go are skills we learn, sometimes through difficult experiences. And choosing your mental health over a relationship that keeps hurting you isn't selfish. It's self-respect. 🤎

Learning is a continuous journey, and knowledge is meant to be shared. 🧠

I recently completed the **Be There Certificate**, a free online mental health training developed by Jack.org in collaboration with the Born This Way Foundation.

The training introduces five Golden Rules to help recognize when someone may be struggling with their mental health and how to offer safe, meaningful, and effective support.

As a Clinical and Health Psychologist and researcher, I strongly believe in continuous learning, regardless of our academic qualifications or professional experience. There is always something new to discover, reinforce, or reflect upon.

**I particularly encourage students in psychology, healthcare, education, social work, and anyone studying or working in a field that involves human interaction to explore this training.**

It's free, accessible, and an opportunity to enrich your knowledge and develop practical skills that can be valuable both professionally and personally.

After all, mental health awareness shouldn't be limited to mental health professionals. Knowing how to recognize distress, listen without judgment, and guide someone toward appropriate support can make a meaningful difference.

Education becomes even more valuable when we share opportunities to learn.

You can experience mental health struggles, and your lived experience can absolutely be valuable. It can help others feel seen, recognize that they may be struggling too, and even encourage them to seek professional help.

But having lived through something does not give you the right to diagnose other people, especially when you are not a qualified mental health professional or to assume that you know exactly what someone else is going through.

Two people can have the same diagnosis and experience it in completely different ways.

Share your experience. Raise awareness. Encourage people to seek help. But know the limits of your expertise.

Having the same condition does not mean having the same experience.

If there's one thing this experience reminded me, it's that our voice matters.
Sometimes we hesitate to raise our hand because we think someone else is more qualified, more experienced, or more deserving of being heard. But growth often begins the moment we choose to contribute instead of remaining silent.

On June 24th, I simply raised my hand.
I couldn't have imagined where that small decision would lead.
As a psychologist, researcher, and lifelong learner, I left this experience with even greater conviction that knowledge should always be accompanied by empathy, humility, and humanity.

To everyone who has followed this journey, thank you. And if there's one thought I'd like to leave you with, it's this:
Don't underestimate where one conversation, one opportunity, or one raised hand can take you.
There were people who come to say congratulations to me even the next day of the event saying that I spoke greatly and there was the best way to end the discussion.

There is something surreal about watching actors who brought some of your favorite characters to life, and then, years later, finding yourself in the same room, listening to them, reflecting with them, and contributing to the conversation.

Moments like these remind me that our dreams rarely happen the way we imagine.

Sometimes they happen quietly. One decision. One opportunity. One conversation at a time.
And sometimes, all it takes is having the courage to raise your hand.

#willemdafoe #jasonisaacs #harrypotter #spiderman #aquaman by @aal.mindlocker

If you had asked the younger version of me whether one day I'd be in this room, sharing my thoughts alongside people whose work I had admired for years, she probably would have smiled and said, "I don't know." A slightly older version of me would have answered, "Maybe. Anything is possible."
Today, I know that some dreams don't arrive all at once. They arrive one opportunity, one conversation, and one raised hand at a time.
This was one of those moments.

On June 24th, I had the privilege of participating in An Enemy of the People, a public reading and discussion facilitated by Bryan Doerries and Theater of War Productions, alongside an extraordinary cast that included Willem Dafoe, Jason Isaacs, Brian F. O'Byrne, Frankie Faison, Rafika Chawishe, Marjolaine Goldsmith, and Laurie Eustis.
My thoughts 💬

Some plays entertain us. Others leave us with questions that stay long after the curtain falls.
An Enemy of the People reminded me of a quote I first read many years ago:
"Intelligence without love is dangerous."
As a psychologist, I couldn't help but reflect on the relationship between truth and communication. Throughout history, we've often rejected ideas not because they lacked evidence, but because they challenged what we believed or made us uncomfortable.
At the same time, those who hold knowledge also carry a responsibility. Truth alone is not enough if it is delivered with arrogance, contempt, or cruelty.
Knowledge should never cost us our humanity.
Because being right doesn't make us better than anyone else—it simply gives us a greater responsibility in the way we choose to communicate.

The world is changing, and so are we.

Growth is part of life. We learn, adapt, evolve, and become different versions of ourselves with every experience we live. But while embracing change, there's one thing we should never lose: ourselves.

Keep your values. Keep your kindness. Keep the dreams that make you who you are. Change is inevitable. Losing your identity doesn't have to be.

Grow. Evolve. Adapt. Just don't forget the person you're becoming along the way.

A mudança é inevitável. Perder a sua identidade não tem de ser assim.

Crescer. Evoluir. Adaptar. Só não se esqueça da pessoa em que se está a tornar ao longo do caminho.

Can we just stop for a minute and think about how much the world has changed in the last five years?

I saw something that genuinely amazed me for the first time: a projection displayed on a dancing water fountain. Having lived in China for several years, I've seen technology evolve at an incredible pace, so it takes a lot to surprise me. But this did.

It also made me wonder… if this is how much life has changed in just five years, what will the next five look like?

A gentle reminder to pause every now and then. Take a deep breath. Look around. We're living through a time of extraordinary change, and sometimes we're moving so fast that we forget to truly experience it, to pause and live in the moment as well 😉

Thank you to Joy L. Bivins and Anthony Marx for a thoughtful discussion on the role of libraries—not simply as places that preserve knowledge, but as institutions that protect memory, challenge misinformation, and remind us that every story deserves to be remembered.

I'll share one of the stories shared during this discussion at the conference that stayed with me.

As it was told, a Black woman was searching for work when she was turned away because of the color of her skin. Discouraged, she continued walking until she passed a library dedicated to preserving Black history and culture. Curious, she went inside. She assumed there couldn't possibly be much to find—that history had rarely made space for people who looked like her.

Instead, she was shown shelves filled with books, archives, photographs, and stories that reflected generations of Black voices, achievements, and experiences.

That visit changed something in her. Seeing herself represented, seeing that her community's history had been preserved and valued, helped her imagine a different future for herself. She later became a writer.

Whether we realize it or not, representation is more than visibility. It shapes possibility. When people can see themselves in history, in science, in literature, in leadership, and in culture, they begin to believe that they, too, belong there.
