Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother follows Latif, a devout hitman racing across Houston to protect his children after his wife’s death. Last week at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, we brought together friends from across the arts to screen the film, directed by Pillars Frames Fellowship advisor Bassam Tariq (@curry_crayola) and starring fellow advisor Mahershala Ali (@mahershalaali).

After the screening, Bassam was joined in conversation by poet and critic Hanif Abdurraqib (@nifmuhammad).

We’re deeply grateful to Bassam and Mahershala for sharing this work with us. Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother is now playing in select theaters, and in theaters everywhere in October. by @aalisub

The Art of Noticing with Donavon Smallwood [@xdonavon]

New York City is often the end-goal for many artists. A main character city where dreams come true and inspiration flows freely. For Donavon, inspiration strikes through nature - a hard to come by commodity in the city. His focus is on project-based work that creates a meaningful wrapper for each story he aims to tell. My conversation with Donavon really highlighted his curiosity for the craft and his subjects, as shown so clearly through the intentionality behind each image he captures.

once you see one total solar eclipse, I promise you will try to see one every year.

The 2025 eclipse we saw in Rochester was cloudy, but I could still feel that energy. I booked my hotel room 15 months in advance for the next eclipse in Mallorca.

Thanks to @photopills I was able to do some really precise mapping of where I wanted to be on the island to see and capture this moment.
