Keyvani Rosialee Barrow came into the world silent, and in that moment I was terrified. I didn’t hear a cry. She was immediately placed into my arms, and as I held her against my chest, I heard it for the first time—my baby’s first cry. I cried so hard. It was the sweetest sound I’ve ever heard, and it was exactly what I needed. I needed you, Vani.

We’ve already been through so much together. You kept your little foot pressed against me the entire pregnancy, and I was sick every single day—but every moment was worth it the second I held you in my arms. In that moment, everything became clear, calm, and soft.
