Oh gosh where do I even start with this post, grab the tissues.

After 15 incredible years, I’ve officially danced my last dance. Dance has been who I am since I could first remember, I wouldn’t be who I am today without it. From recitals, competitions, nationals, trophies, medals, lots of laughs, friendships, a few knee injuries, and many more, it shaped me into the person I can proudly say I am. I can’t believe it’s already time to say goodbye. But as I’ve been told before “how lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” I am so blessed to have danced with such amazing people, not everyone gets to experience having a dance family, but I am forever thankful I did.

One of my favorite parts of dance is the bonds, every time before we stepped on stage we would do a team huddle to hype each other up and remind everyone that we dance for each other, not the medals or trophy’s, but for one another. When I was at nationals after we won best in show, one of the judges told something that I’ll never forget. He said “never stop dancing, you are a star and I want you to never stop dancing.” And that exact part has stuck with me, it reminded me that just because I didn’t make the college dance team I was hoping to, doesn’t mean I should give up my passion.

To my coaches:
You guys have watched me grow up, you’ve been there for me and believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself. Thank you all for everything you’ve showed and taught me, I will carry your words of love and encouragement throughout my life for many more years to come. If you guys ever need anything reach out, I’m always around!

To my girls:
Never stop dancing. You all are so beyond talented and amaze me every single time I watch you guys, never let ANYONE discourage you and never stop doing what you love. Just because I will never dance beside you again doesn’t mean I won’t always be here, you guys will forever be my home away from home. You never know when a moment is going to become a memory, so every time you make an accomplishment, soak it all in.

Update: still crying

Words can’t even explain what I’m feeling right now, it’s so surreal and it still hasn’t fully hit me yet. I am so so SO beyond proud of all of our hard work and dedication, we wouldn’t have made it here with our amazing choreography and coaches! What an incredible way to end my senior year ❣️

Here’s another “last” to add to the books, marching band season is over. 🥹

As I stepped off the field for the last time today and turned my uniform in, I thought back on how far I’ve come. I went from an 8th grader who was deeply considering quitting band because she didn’t like the idea of marching, to a senior who couldn’t love marching more. I couldn’t be more thankful for Mr Russell convincing me to stay. Although sometimes things don’t always go as expected; being apart of this program is not something everyone gets to experience. The friendships, the bonding, the laughter, and most importantly the family you make along the way. Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years, I wouldn’t be where am I today if it weren’t for you. Being drum major has made a HUGE impact and difference in my life and I couldn’t be more blessed with such an opportunity.

To my band: thank you for trusting me enough to be your drum major. I know there has been some problems recently but out of all seriousness, thank you for everything. Thank you for all the laughs, the support, and most of all thank you for being my second family, I am who I am today because of you guys. All I ask is you give the next drum majors to come the same courage and grace you gave me.

To my underclassman: enjoy every minute, it goes by WAY too fast, so please enjoy it! Every laugh, every game, every rehearsal, every parade, every time you accomplish something big, take a minute and soak in every moment.

To Lily: you’re the main reason I’m dreading leaving this part of band, it’s not everyday that someone gets to experience being drum major, let alone being drum major with their absolute best friend. I know you’re gonna do great things and take good care of the band!!

As sad as I am to leave this chapter of my life, all good things must come to an end. Marching band will forever hold a special place in my heart, until next time. 🫶 by @aaliyahlemoss

Hi, my name is Aaliyah! Im 17 years old and I am a senior at Lakeville High School. I have been dancing at Terry Matlock since I was 3 years old! Dancing here at TMSOPA is truly a blessing and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. One of my favorite parts about dancing here is the memories and bonds you make over the years that will last you a lifetime, it’s truly unmatched and I couldn’t be more blessed with such an amazing dance family! My favorite style of dance is lyrical and jazz!
