POSTS STORIES REELS

Aaliyah’s music empowered a generation (especially young women) to navigate love, growth, and self-worth with confidence. She was more than a musical genius; she was a fashion icon and trailblazer who broke barriers for Black youth. Her effortless style, quiet strength, and genre-defining sound continue to influence today’s artists. Aaliyah didn’t just leave a mark, she opened doors.

How would you say Aaliyah shaped black culture?

Make sure you guys check out my interview with "The Ashlee and Jessicast podcast", hosted by pop culture connoisseur and actress Lia Russo.

Thank you to Lia Russo | @ashleeandjessicast for the platform, the thoughtful questions, and the space to speak from the soul.

Just a friendly PSA: I actively honor nearly all individuals connected to Aaliyah, regardless of their current status, including those she worked with, wished to collaborate with, or mentioned in her lifetime. I believe there is nothing inappropriate about my page focusing on Aaliyah, her colleagues, and those who admired her, as she would have likely celebrated them in return if she were still with us.

Sadly, there isn't much to talk about today that hasn't already been discussed repeatedly in every fan page over the past 20 years. I enjoy weaving Aaliyah into various contemporary topics whenever possible. This has ALWAYS been the ethos of my page since I started AU (formally known as Aaliyah'z World); if this approach does not suit your preferences, I recommend that you seek other platforms or start your own page.

There is room for growth within all of us.

DID YOU KNOW: Aaliyah's name IS BEING considered but not enough to be actually nominated! 🙏🏼🌹

"In order for an artist to be in discussion for induction, they would first have to get nominated by the nomination committee. Even before the nomination, the artist’s name has to be on the ballot. Aaliyah has been placed on the ballot since she was eligible (2020) and has appeared on the ballot FOUR times between 2020 and now. " - @inductaaliyah via IG.

I miss the '90s and early 2000s, when you could pick up just about ANY magazine and find a beautiful shot of Aaliyah somewhere inside. Big or small, she was always featured, always being talked about. She was THE IT-GIRL of our generation. 🥺❤️
You could grab any hip hop or hair magazine off the rack and start flipping through the pages because you just KNEW Aaliyah was in there somewhere. Those days were something special.

Aaliyah w/ Fatima in a scene of the 2000's film Romeo Must Die.

This was Trish's hip-hop clothing boutique that also functioned as a coffee shop and a local hangout spot for youths. It's cool to see that Aaliyah had so much of herself in this film. The boutique was called "Serpentine" (shot on location in Gastown).

In real life, the store is located at 350 West Cordova Street, Vancouver, BC V6B 2V2, Canada and the store is called "The Block". This store is also used in scenes for the 2016 show "You Me Her".

Timbaland shares how they had been working on a particular style (sound) during their time working with DeVante, but ultimately decided to give that sound to Aaliyah because DeVante wasn't actively working on new music at the time (and, let's not forget, no one else was really checking for Missy or Tim or giving them a shot).

But imagine if things had played out differently. What if DeVante had been working on music at the time? Would that sound have gone to him instead of Aaliyah? And if so, how differently might things have unfolded?

It's fascinating to think about how one decision, or even the timing of it, could have changed the trajectory of music history and maybe even Aaliyah's legacy as someone who changed hiphop and R&B.

What do you think?
.. and do you guys ever wonder if DeVante was ever upset for having such a groundbreaking sound right in his backyard and never giving it a shot? That's almost like selling your land then finding out the new owners struck oil while renovating. 😅

Timbaland recently revealed that he almost scrapped "Up Jumps Da Boogie" because he wasn't feeling the track. He thought it was corny and too "regular" for his liking. That is, until Magoo stepped in, basically telling him, "AHT AHT!" and slapping his hand before he could throw the song away! 😂

Thankfully, Magoo saved the track because shortly afterward, Missy Elliott and Aaliyah heard it and absolutely loved it. But it was Aaliyah's reaction in particular that made Tim reconsider. When she expressed how much SHE loved the song, that's when he finally thought, Okay, maybe this one actually has hit potential!

"Up Jumps da Boogie" is the debut single by hip-hop duo Timbaland & Magoo released July 11, 1997.

On This Day - MONDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2002
“Miss You” was first made available on October 28, 2002, for streaming via AOL’s program First Listen by Blackground Records and Universal Records who serviced it to contemporary hit, rhythmic contemporary, urban contemporary and urban adult contemporary radio stations in the United States on November 12, as the lead single from I Care 4 U.

Jay-Z’s remix of the song was serviced to the urban contemporary radio on April 8, 2003 and was released as a CD single with the original version on April 29.
The song was written by Johntá Austin, Ginuwine and Teddy Bishop in 1998, the song was initially recorded in 1999 for Aaliyah’s eponymous third studio album (2001). However, it did not make the final cut for Aaliyah and remained unreleased.
