One year of LUNA! 🌟

Today marks one year since we released LUNA: An Animated Short.
What started as a show of love at LunaCanvas Studio turned into something much greater when over 65,000 of you watched, rewatched and shared it across YouTube and social media. We are truly humbled by the warmth and encouragement we've received; it's been beyond anything we ever hoped!

Since then, The LUNA film has quietly opened doors to opportunities for us that we once only could dream of. While we can't reveal what we've been working on... yet (NDA life ;w;;), we want to assure you that our team has been busy crafting new worlds and stories, frame by frame.

We know it has been pretty quiet here, but your continued support means the world to us: thank you for staying tuned. Our next updates may take time (Animation is a marathon, not a sprint, which sometimes stretches into years!); but when we can finally share what we're doing, we promise it will be worth the wait. Like, promise promise!

Here’s to you, those who still get starry-eyed over hand-drawn frames, just like us, and we thank you again for your continued support. 🙌💜

A vital element to the film, the mysterious planet from LUNA comes to life through its enchanting backgrounds-- each scene more than a backdrop; it weaves an alluring atmosphere that feels vibrant and alive, telling its narrative without a single word.

As Background Supervisor, Fatima Agha @fatimas_pages leads with her incredible eye for detail, ensuring every element enhances the storytelling. Maria Sohail @modabilla beautifully captures the lush, whimsical flora, while Ali Hyder @draw.run.repeat transports us to LUNA's realm with his mastery of otherworldly landscapes. Together, their work brings the mesmerizing environments of LUNA to life.

In 2D animation, fluidity and detail stem from mastering motion, timing, and weight. Every subtle movement adds depth, especially in elements like hair. Celeste's hair, a character in its own right, was brought to life beautifully by Aisha "Yuushi" Mohsin @yuushi_art, with incredible attention to detail and fluidity. We dub her our Sakuga Specialist-- her animation is always magical. Under her guidance, Usman Umer Rashid @urashid93, executed the film’s closing shot wonderfully. Such a crucial element, and they truly aced it!

Using the Storyboards as blueprint, we utilized each sketch to plot the story before we brought it to life through animation. From the first doodles to the final frame, these panels were where Luna started her journey.

I’d like to take this space to celebrate the fellow companions whom I have had the privilege to work with over the last few years on The Glassworker and beyond:

These young, humble heroes put in a lot of sweat (and sometimes tears) in their formative years. From teenage years to adulthood, to finding friends and life-long partners possessing the same inner passion -- their deep love for the art, their passionate and vibrant energy, as well as eager excitement to learn and contribute -- these were all the secret ingredients which allowed any project to blossom.

Through all the downs and ups, and at times the stress, contributing to fluctuating emotions (and weight 😂), we all developed together not only as artists but as humans, with remarkable resilience and absolute fluidity and versatility. We were unafraid to take on new challenges… such as eating Durian– and loving it! Or hating it. The point was to eat it anyway, in spite of the stink (those who did, BAMFs 💪).

And let’s not forget the best thing: going through all of that together brought us closer as a unit -- a support system that will continue to thrive in the years to come. I’ve no doubt that all these amazingly talented people will soar to great heights! And I will admire them all with pride.

With its Annecy premiere coming soon, it's difficult to put into words my emotions from the nine years of working on The Glassworker.

In 2015, I was approached by a boy equipped only with pencil sketches and watercolor on paper; and his appreciation for my @indusvalleyschoolkarachi Animation Thesis. He asked if we could work on an animated short together - 4 minutes– as a love letter to Studio Ghibli; a project which became a 98-minute full-fledged labour of love; and hitherto the greatest pursuit of my career.

From a small room where the animation frames, tools and drawing tablets were introduced by yours truly; to a team of 25 trained talents at the end of production– it’s so heartening to see the project being recognized by prestigious festivals such as @annecyfestival & @festivaldecannes. I’m confident & excited for it to make further waves in the animation and entertainment industry world-wide, and as its Animation Director, Head of Composite & VFX, and more– I am proud to have played a significant part in it.

An honor and an absolute blast working on this really cool music visualizer for @cocoprods! From a city battle-ground idea by director @arafa.almughairi, to making this animation loop in a jiff, putting LunaCanvas's creative minds & hands together-- it was a fun ride the whole way.

The two music artists, @dafencii & @souljamusic, were designed for animation by @heyitssoufiya & @fatimas_pages respectively, while @urashid93 carved the battle-torn city, and @aamirriff put the fire, smoke, light & magic to everything and brought it all together. Character animation by all four artists.
