Hi friends! I just launched my website 🌞 Check out my work in my bio and hmu for projects 💗 https://aamowi.studio by @aamowi_
Sound design reel! 🌞 I’m officially open to work on sound design projects so hit me up for films, installations, live performances, fashion shows, soundscapes, exhibitions and anything else Featured: FREE ME - @kodiethebrand The Memory Guardians - @nnennaon Adventures of The Black Girl and Her Search for Mabel Dove - @nnennaon — Over the past few years, one of the ways I’ve poured back into and pulled myself back from the dark night of the soul has been to lean, fully and fearlessly into artistic exploration. It made me confront wounded, abandoned, ashamed, neglected parts of myself and meet them with love. And I realised with new eyes just how beautiful they are. Circling back to my first love, music, through DJing I ventured even further to explore soundscapes; these abstract mysteries unbound by any conventional structure or rules. Not only did I realise I have free will and can actually do whatever I want 😂 it also helped me understand just how powerful music is and the role sounds play in almost every aspect of our waking lives. Wielded correctly, you can make people feel….anything! I’ve had the privilege of working with some amazing filmmakers and creatives since who have trusted me to layer their precious works with music and sound. I’m also proud to say I’m working on my own film which I directed and scored. (I seriously can’t wait to share it!✨) In the meantime, here’s a little bit of what I’ve been up to. Enjoyyyy ✌🏾💖✨ #soundart #soundartist #sounddesign #filmscore #soundscapes by @aamowi_

“If I’m putting my name on it, then hopefully you know that it’s going to be safe. And it’s going to be catered to Nigeria. You know, we are womxn and we want to go out” - Building these safe spaces has always been more than just a party. Organisers risk it all, putting in a great amount of work and care just to see their communities thrive. - WWG: Lagos is live!!! Stay tuned for very exciting news of screenings happening this month! And if you are interested in showing queer films and telling queer stories, please get in touch via email in the profile 💖 by @aamowi_
The freedom you feel at the womxn-only function is always unmatched!!! #whenwomxngather #wwglagos by @aamowi_
“This is Activism through Enjoyment” — Dedoja Rave culture as we know it today originates from Black, queer, and trans folx banding together to build community through underground parties and gatherings. Serving as sanctuaries for self-expression, healing, and freedom, these spaces allowed the marginalised to celebrate themselves and each other in a world that continuously told them they shouldn’t exist. Electronic dance music in turn became a medium for belonging, and a tool of defiance against capitalism, racism and homophobia. This film is based on the premise of Joy as Resistance. Beyond a simple desire to party, we follow womxn who envisioned more for themselves and their communities. Out of a hostile environment, they carved oases of safety and respite; and through their stories, we witness the birth of the globally renowned rave scene of Lagos. #whenwomxngather #wwglagos by @aamowi_
Thank you to the incredible cast and crew of When Womxn Gather: Lagos. Shot in two days, we sought to capture the essence of all the in-between moments in the extensive story which is WWG:Lagos. For the parts we didn’t have footage for, we would reimagine as creatively as we could. Thank you to the fantastic and dedicated cast and crew of womxn, trans and non-binary folx who showed up and gave their all each day. In telling the story of our community we inevitably created one ourselves. There’s so much to say I don’t even know where to begin. Making this film challenged and stretched me beyond anything I’ve ever experienced. I’ve grown so much!!!! I’ve gained so much more confidence in myself and my spirituality, purely from the sheer willpower and manifestation that was needed to get to the end of this film. So I just want to thank myself for sticking to the vision and not compromising. I pushed so hard to the very end to tell this story the best way I could. With my limited resources, knowledge and experience, this is my best effort. But this was not done by myself. to thank every single actor that helped to make this a reality. I want to thank the entire @obodo_nigeria team who met me with so much excitement from the start and helped facilitate every meeting and interview. I want to thank my entire cast and crew for showing up every day, willing to give their all to bring this vision to life. I want to give a special shoutout @kxzxxmx who is responsible for the vast majority of the post-production for this film: core editing, motion graphics AND the 2-minute animation that features in the film. We sat together, week after week for months. Finally, I want to thank everyone in my community who allowed me yap about this nonstop at every point in this journey: the good times and the bad. Especially those much more experienced than me in sound and film who took the time to calm me down and mentor me. Every single time I called @sardineoil_911 or tronomie_ they picked up. I’m forever grateful. I’m so proud of this work and there’s so much to say about it. I’m excited to share more and more on @whenwomxngatherseries. This project has granted me the most beautiful, honest and pure experiences of Lagos, Nigeria I could ever ask for. It introduced me to the most wonderful community of insanely talented, kind and sweet people who are forever imprinted on my heart. I can’t wait for the future and to see where else this series takes me. #whenwomxngather #wwglagos by @aamowi_
When Womxn Gather is an artistic documentary series by @aamowi_ exploring how women and trans non-binary folx shape and sustain nightlife, music, and contemporary culture in their cities. The series investigates the nuances of how these alternative subcultures, built by womxn, manifest on and off the African continent, shaped by colonial legacies and present-day socio-political realities. The first of this series explores Lagos, Nigeria and is supported by @obodo_nigeria by @aamowi_
