☕️ Not only is she a City Council Woman, but she is also the co-owner of Alchemist on the Divide, a coffee shop located in Downtown Duluth @alcmtc

🌱 As an immigrant from South Korea, she understands why mental health is important to address in the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities.

🎶 Hear from Sarah Park at the 3rd Annual Music for PEACE on October 17th from 6-8PM! Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased at the link in our bio or by scanning the QR code on the flyer.

🤩 Meet Yusuf, the last inaugural recipients of the PEACE Change Maker Grant that we are featuring!

✨ With the $500 grant, Yusuf created a mental wellness event that boys would actually want to attend.

♟️ A lot of guys may not sign up for an event specifically about mental health or feel comfortable talking about their feelings, which is why Yusuf created an event focused on chess to give boys a chance to destress in new ways.

🌱 Learn more about Yusuf’s mental health project at Music for PEACE on Saturday, October 17th from 6-8pm at CBM Atlanta! Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the link in our bio or by scanning the QR code on the flyer!

✨ Knowing firsthand the power of bringing people together, Shirley created this event to help others feel the reliable support system from the AAPI community, the same way she felt it as someone new to the community.

🤩 Asma is one of the inaugural grantees for the PEACE Change Maker program!

✨ With the $500 grant, Asma created an event for teen girls at a local mosque.

💗 Knowing mental health is a difficult topic to discuss amongst Asian American, immigrant, and Muslim families, she created a safe environment for young girls to freely express themselves and to know it’s okay to take of their emotional well-being first and foremost.

🌱 Learn more about Asma’s mental health project at Music for PEACE on Saturday, October 17th from 6-8pm at CBM Atlanta! Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the link in our bio or by scanning the QR code on the flyer!

On the topic of mental health for Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Youth 💗 Sharing here since many of you identify as AAPI youth living in Georgia, or may know someone who does + inviting you to support your local AAPI community at an upcoming event.

Yesterday, I had a very heart-filling experience hosting a community event, made possible with the AAPI P.E.A.C.E. Change-Maker Grant 💚. The purpose of the event was to create a space for AAPI Youth (and allies) to de-stress by learning the art of stamp-making, find a sense of community in a “chill” setting, and become aware of accessible mental health resources.

Common barriers that keep AAPI from seeking mental health services include: language/cultural barrier, lack of space for vulnerable conversations, and the stigma that surrounds this topic.

I myself relate to these struggles and did not grow up around a community that shared my cultural identity, but am thankful to have found support systems later on, through connecting with AAPI-focused grassroots and organizations, where I met some of my closest friends and mentors.

☮️ AAPI P.E.A.C.E., the organization that funded this event, works to provide culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate mental health services to AAPI individuals and families.

💌 YOU ARE INVITED:
To support AAPI P.E.A.C.E’s mission and join us at their Music for Peace 🎶 fundraising event this Saturday 10/17 @ 6:00-8:00PM (see flyer to get tickets) 🫶 Come support your local AAPI youth!

• 🗣️ The Breakouts: Real talk sessions on Asian American masculinity and mental health with Dr. David Kim (@davekim67) & Dr. Ethan Trinh.
• 📖 The Storytelling: Filmmaker (@pineapplecutpictures) Abijeet Achar (@abijeetachar) breaking down the trap of "chasing perfectionism" in our community.
