Turned 50 last year and decided to set an age-appropriate goal: 500-lb deadlift. 🏋️😂

Unfortunately, my L5-S1 disc had other plans. Through years of volleyball, skateboarding, powerlifting and other abuse, the disc had disappeared, my nerves started getting compressed, and I ended up spending this past year sidelined with nerve pain and muscle weakness.

This week, I got a titanium spacer where my disc used to be.

I’m moving pretty slow right now, but the doctors are optimistic about a full recovery—and I’m excited to get back to being active and strong again.

Time to rebuild.💪

We may look a like but this young man is way smarter, we do share some similar dance moves and laugh a lot 💙 McCoy is my master mind 11 year old son. Fascinating to watch my 7th grade daughter Mirabelle & her Paideia classmates battle in the Brain Bowl. The challenges are similar to what I teach every day in our D 1 volleyball gym. Believing under pressure, celebrating your teammates bravery, taking bold risk & bouncing back quickly if it didn’t go well & the fun fight to achieve excellence. No they didn’t 🥇 , but I truly enjoyed the way they worked through all of these emotions & had a wonderful learning experience with friends.
