SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT 📣 !

I am excited to share that I will be featured in @prazzlearts inaugural book: Culture Kaleidoscope, 100 Contemporary Artists of Our Time! This book is a “call to action: to see, to remember, and to champion the artists shaping our time” and highlights 100 established and emerging artists working across multidisciplinary media, creating a snapshot of art in motion rather than art already historicized. The inaugural volume debuts September 11th in line with the “Artists of Our Time” exhibition at @bba.gallery during @berlinartweek

I’ve been meaning to post about this for a little bit but better late than never…. Started this art journey in my youth, always creating, drawing, taking photos, but my artistic practice as it appears today didn’t really begin until 2021/2022 after my good friend @kurtslanaker saw my potential as a painter during the covid lockdowns and urged me to explore it more. Now, my practice includes not only painting, but 3-dimensional works and a budding furniture design practice. I’ve learned that growth can happen as quickly or slowly as you want it, it’s all about intention. I truly believe in only getting started and I can now say that I AM A PUBLISHED ARTIST📕🤩!!!!

I am eternally grateful to everyone who has supported my artistic journey up until this point - my collectors, my partner, family, and gallerists/curators who have believed in me. I am especially grateful for the Prazzle team for believing I am worthy to be featured among legends such as @kara_walker_official and @marcusjansenofficial and other change-making contemporary artists who are paving the way for others. I’m getting better at celebrating my wins and this is definitely one worth celebrating 🎉

Yesterday made it 1 week of training at a new job in a new city. First day of fall, so had to throw on some Canadian prep or something like that. Embracing change and all the beauty and uncertainty that comes with it. 🍂

New York Chronicles pt 2:

Always a good time and too much to recap at once! Saw some friends cc: @westleydimagiba and @akiefsheriff , a show on Broadway for the first time, at a 🔥 cookie from @aimeleondore, stopped at an old favorite @maisonpremiere then had my favorite Italian food at @icavallinibk, saw @realblackcoffee, went OD on deli sandwiches, and so on.

New York chronicles pt1: @usopen first round

In the name of doing new things this season of my life, I decided to go to the US Open and experience the greats in person. The weather was perfect for viewership (minus when the sun finally crept to us) and it’s always great to be in good company while at events like this. I would go again next year but hopefully someone sponsors me and I get a box/suite 😂

Reminiscing on some of my favorite art moments as of late… and having the opportunity to view @rashidjohnson “A Poem for Deep Thinkers” exhibition at the @guggenheim was definitely up there.

As a melanated artist, it’s not often that you get to view the work of someone who looks like you en masse at an institution as prestigious as the Guggenheim, let alone for that artist to be alive and thriving at the young age of 47. The exhibit was multidisciplinary masterclass but had a coherence and bonding thread that tied years of work together into one solid story. His use of tiles as the substrate for some his black soap paintings, to his inclusion of photography, books, and other media that showcase his own personal research, made it an inspirational take on the importance of utilizing all of our skills and intellect to directly tell stories and manifest a life worth living, even when the chips may be stacked against us.

As I revisit this, I now look at my own practice and how it can serve as a source of liberation and intellectual/spiritual growth for myself and my patrons alike. The idea that all art should move you is a fallacy but when art does move you… make sure you move with it.

Pelota Americana (F it We Ball), 2025 🏀⛹🏾‍♂️

My first sculptural piece of work. Made from wood, this piece was inspired by a combination of the Mesoamerican game Pitz (sometimes referred to as pok-ta-pok) and basketball. It explores the seemingly impossible nature of winning the game of America and the hoops that must be traversed in order to score.

The backboard, made from shims used in construction, found further inspiration from the decorative shingles found on Victorian homes in the West End neighborhood of Atlanta (although they look fairly unattractive when unpainted). Making this the culmination of factors that can sometimes constitute the struggles of the “American dream” as it pertains to finding a home and a place of refuge, and how we as a people can persevere despite the challenges. 🏠

Been in hermit mode but it felt good to step out and shine ✨ a little in what is becoming another favorite city of mine 🏙️. Tons of action happening in the #commercialrealestate development 🏗️landscape in Nashville which means there’s tons of opportunity for more art and creative #placemaking.

The food scene in Nashville is worth exploring for sure 😋, the people are kind, and the opportunities are only growing. If you step out of the terrible broadway honkey tonk chaos, the city is beautiful. Nashville, you owe me nothing but more good vibes on my next visit.

Side note: shout out to my guy @curated_by_erooseveltbrown for showing my artwork at the @arcadeartsnash. Can’t wait to show more artwork here too 🖼️

🎥 A quick recap of last weeks opening night of A Sense of Home in a Foreign Place. The opening night was nothing less than spectacular with an amazing turnout, works sold, and overall great vibes.

This body of work really pushed me from not only a technical viewpoint but also a spiritual, emotional, and time perspective as well. This was my first time creating work with oil paint and my first foray into woodworking 🪑and sculptural design and I couldn’t be more proud of myself for doing something new and uncomfortable.

A special shout out to @pagethink @gallery100atlanta for providing this opportunity to exhibit a body of work that means very much to me. Also thank you to the @rootsfund for pulling through with a phenomenal selection of wine, poured by their talented scholars, and thank you to my lady for holding it down through this massive endeavor. Also thank you to my dear friend @josephaabu for pushing me to get out of my head and into my heart when creating as well as all my close friends and family who contributed their energy towards the installation I have within the exhibit. Lastly, thank you to all the collectors, new and old, who have acquired work from this exhibition thus far.

A Sense of Home in a Foreign Place is on view until 6/26 at @gallery100atlanta by appointment only. 📆
