Female and male Common Loons look identical in plumage, making them impossible to tell apart visually by an untrained eye. Males are generally about 25% larger than females, but this size difference is only obvious when the two birds are swimming side-by-side. Females construct the nest out of mud, moss, and aquatic vegetation very close to the water’s edge. They typically lay one to three olive-brown eggs with dark spots.

First you were spied a flighting pair
Flashing and fluting here and there,
Until in stealth the nest was made
And graciously you stayed. - Sylvia Lynd

On cleared and cultivated land,
exotic weeds and thistle stand,
whose seed is sought in great demand,
so farmers gain a helping hand- The Goldfinch aka The Wild Canary

I have stared in solitary bliss,
understanding very little or indeed, none of this.
This earth, whose petals we all will selfishly to pick, this sky who day by day we poison sick,
these waters whom each one of us without
should live a low existence, hand to mouth.

(Female) Anna’s hummingbird

This species consumes tree sap, nectar from flowers, insects, and sugar-water mixes from feeders. Anna’s hummingbirds capture flying insects or eat insects trapped in spider webs, sometimes even the spiders themselves.
