Absolute cinema! Mamadou Barry with less than two minutes left in the game scored the game-winning goal for @sheyennesoccer as they won 2-1 over Minot in the North Dakota State semifinal! The Mustangs are into the state championship game for the first time in program history, as they will take on West Fargo on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Fargo North High School.

Update on @msu_cometfootball Quarterback Matt Donovan per his Dad, Terry:

Matt Update — Friday, October 16
Matt stacked another day today. It was similar to Thursday, with his eyes open more often and for longer stretches. Sometimes he seems to focus on me, and other times he fixes his gaze on something else. It is just so encouraging to see those eyes open.
I would describe it as him starting to wake up and emerge. Sometimes he looks scared, and sometimes he looks like our son. We keep talking to him, bringing up old memories and reassuring him that he is OK. I’ve told him he was injured playing football and that we’re in Fargo, but we are right there with him. There is nothing to be afraid of. His job right now is to keep getting better.
The team took him through a series of tests today to establish a baseline, I believe, ahead of the move. He also did another breathing trial, breathing on his own with some assistance for eight hours today after going about 12½ hours yesterday. Today’s trial ended at eight hours, but he could have gone longer, but they started aftrr his other tests. Another step forward.
A few times today, I thought his eyes followed me as I moved around the bed. It is so good to see his eyes and have those moments with him. After yesterday, I thought we might see a little less activity today because his brain and body are working so hard. But he stacked another day right on top of yesterday.
He also spent about 40 minutes sitting up with assistance in the bed, positioned kind of like he was in a La-Z-Boy. I think he is getting ready for that next step.
As of right now, the plan is to move Monday. Matt will take a medical flight to Lincoln, with Tina flying along, and get checked into Madonna. We have been pretty antsy to get him there, but this extra time has allowed him to keep healing. We’re hopeful he’ll arrive ready to work on this next step and keep waking up.
Please pray for a good, healthy weekend. Pray for his continued wakefulness, and pray for safe travels on Monday.

What a night for Tyler Gast! He scores the game-winning goal off a free kick to win 3-2 over Buffalo on Thursday and send @moorhead.soccer to the Section 8 championship game. Gast finished with a hat trick as he sets up the Spuds for their 1st chance at a state tournament run since 2021. They will face St. Michael-Albertville on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.

Update on Mayville State Quarterback Matt Donovan per his Dad, Terry:

Today was a big day. Things are looking good for a move to Madonna on Monday. As much as we wanted it to happen earlier, it looks like Matt needed this time to heal and get ready for the next phase. His infection is clearing, most of the fluid has drained, and they are hoping to remove his chest tube tomorrow.
As someone who has quarterbacked a triple-option offense, Matt knows you sometimes run the same play over and over, gaining a little ground, until all of a sudden you start breaking off big chunks. That is what today felt like.
I got here really late after our game last night, and I am so thankful I was here to see what felt like his biggest day in the last three and a half weeks.
A huge thank-you to my coaching staff for making it possible for me to be here. On the days I am away from practice, I know our team is in great hands. Knowing our players are being cared for and coached by people I trust means more than I can say. You are giving me the chance to be Dad when my family needs me most.
Yesterday, they supported him while sitting him on the edge of the bed. Today, they positioned his bed like a chair and helped him stay upright for about 30 minutes. He still needed full support, but during the early part of that time, his eyes were open. Getting him upright seemed to help bring out more alertness.
He opened his eyes five or six other times today, too. Once was for about 2 minutes. Tonight, Tina, AJ, and I were around his bed, and there were moments when he looked right at us and seemed to focus on our faces. He is still not fully conscious, and we don’t know exactly what he was taking in, but those moments of connection were incredible.
I got to look at my son and tell him we can get through anything together. I told him he is the toughest person I know. I cannot put into words how much it meant to be there with him.
We have spent a lot of days celebrating a yard here and a yard there. Today felt like a great drive. Today, it felt like Matt found the end zone. But we do not ever want to stop at one score. taken in Mayville State University by @aaronwallingtv

DGF senior Zander Opsahl (@zanderopsahl7) provided an update to us regarding his condition after a scary head-to-head collision in the Rebels Wednesday night game vs. Barnesville

Opsahl shared with us:

"I'm on my way home now they said its a minor bulged disc and some ligament damage and a concussion. I am walking around good, just soreness. All glory to god and my friends and family for looking out for me."

Opsahl shared he could return to the field "anywhere between 2-4 weeks as long as PT goes good."

What an emotional game for @dgffootball as they had to overcome a lot of adversity in their 37-21 win over Barnesville. Senior Zander Opsahl was taken away in an ambulance and the Rebels were down 14-0. It started with this rushing touchdown by @isaac_leiran as the Rebels won it for Zander.
