Seattleites You Should Know: Aash of @aashfarms
A few years ago, he left his corporate finance job to chase his dream of being a farmer. But he’s not like many. He specializes in sustainable, no-till regenerative farming, and his living soil creates higher nutrient dense products and can 10x the yield of a traditional farm. I have visited his farm in Woodinville twice and each time we started the day with a meditation, sitting on the ground to connect with the earth. He studies Ayurvedic sciences and believes there is a deep connection of energy between the farmer who works the field, and the food that grows there. Aash has multiple pillars of his business including distributing his fresh produce like cucumbers, lettuces, tomatoes, root crops, edible flowers and microgreens to local restaurants, and selling at farmers markets. He strives to preserve summer’s bounty with a few products including dil pickles, hot sauce and herb salts. The season is coming to an end, but he is just getting started.

Since the 1940s, Washington has lost more than half its farms. A local nonprofit is working to buck that trend by helping aspiring farmers get their start.

Seattleites You Should Know 😊
Meet Aash Savla of @aashfarms 🌱

In 2018, he left his corporate finance job in Chicago to chase his dream of being a farmer. But he’s not like most farmers. Through regenerative, no-till practices, he’s creating food that’s richer in nutrients, more alive — and somehow, more abundant than you’d think possible.   Every visit to his farm in Woodinville, starts the same, with a quiet meditation, in stillness, connecting with the earth.

He is a student of Ayurveda which he describes as art of living in tune with your body and nature. and he believes there is a deep connection of energy between the farmer who works the field, and the food that grows there. Aash has multiple pillars of his business including an aggregation program, working with roughly 50 other sustainable farmers to distribute produce directly to Seattle’s best fine dining restaurants, hunger relief agencies and farmers markets - The farms as a whole have grown 350 crop varieties from microgreens, mushrooms, seasonal vegetables, to berries and fruit.

You can find some of the best, sustainably grown produce in Washington coming from these farms with unique, culturally relevant varieties you may not be able to find anywhere else. All of Aash’s work is rooted in stewardship, having a deep respect for the land and craft.

If you see him around, ask about his dried herb line, salt blends or what else he might be pulling up that season.  taken in Woodinville, Washington by @aashfarms

From the moment I stepped into this community at @delridgefarmersmarket with @dirty.danner leading the charge, it shifted my responsibility to think about food differently. It introduced a new layer of food ethics, value for the players involved in the food system and increased my responsibility as a steward to create resilience in food equity across the industry. For Aash Farms that means serving the same food to the cities best restaurants as you do the lowest income neighborhoods.

The torch as market manager has been passed to @seepingwater and today marked a giant step forward for the Delridge farmers market and our community, it proved that with community involvement you can create something from nothing and that with all the chips of gentrification surrounding you, to trust in a grassroots movement.

We moved from an open grass field at a mosque to our own location with a dedicated building. The @mayorofseattle showed up, the City of Seattle showed up and our community in Delridge showed up. It was a good reminder of why as stewards we do what we do. by @aashfarms

S/o to Aash Farms for sourcing us with the gorgeous organic cucumbers for our Cucumber Farmhouse Ale! The perfect toast to the end of the summer season, this cucumbery seasonal is fermented hot with a blend of three kviek yeasts, then conditioned with fresh, no-till, regeneratively grown cucumbers from Aash Farms. This beer explodes with flavors reminiscent of watermelon with smooth body and moderate bitterness complement the melon flavors.

About our cucumber supplier: Aash Farms is a no-till, regenerative vegetable, herb, and microgreen farm in Woodinville. The farm primarily focused on a few main ideals: being a steward of the land, providing consistently high-quality produce, and serving all segments of our food community, especially those in need. MBC collaborated with Aash Farms (pronounced “Osh”) to create our damn good Cherry Belgian Ale. Aash is a farmer who practices sustainable, regenerative agriculture in Western Washington, just minutes away from our Woodinville brewery. He worked with one of his contracted fruit growers to source the beautiful, organically grown cherries. Aash supports 25 hyper-local, sustainable farms by cultivating deep, intentional sourcing relationships that provide security for farmers that are at the peak of their craft.

Aash Farms is a no-till, regenerative vegetable, herb and microgreen farm and focuses primarily on a few main ideals - being a steward to the land, providing consistent high quality produce and serving all sides of our food community, especially those in need. Aash also serves as an aggregator of several hyper local, sustainable and regenerative farms in Washington State.
