Been thinking about this for actors a lot recently with how “quiet” the industry feels, and how unsteady we feel. Give yourself permission to fly. Love yourself regardless of the number of auditions you’re doing or jobs your booking or red carpets you’re attending. There are a lot of award seasons happening right now. Lots of buzz. It’s that time of the year. Pretty dresses, glam faces, excitable nominees. It’s all bloody glorious. But it’s okay if you’re not there (yet). Or ever. It’s okay if your career isn’t at that point. You are doing great. You are okay. You are enough. Have you sat down and taken stock of all of your own wins? I bet you have loads from the last 18 months. An audition for a CD you wanted to be seen by; a couch to 5km run; smashing through a brilliant novel; nailing your work life balance; hugs from a bestie; getting a new fav haircut; making someone else’s day by calling them to say I love you. I spend a lot of time chatting to actors who worry about their success when compared with every other instagram profile or fancy interview splashed around the place. And award season makes it even tougher. It’s all over socials. But here’s the truth. Celeste Barber is real. Celeste posts what real celebrity looks like. Your mate, who has been in 3 independent short films and a commercial and is posting pics at BAFTA like they’re David Tennant, is not. But if it makes them feel good, then that’s okay. That’s their way of making themselves ready for when it does happen. And that’s totally cool too. Just spend time on you being you! I say this to my kids all the time (gosh I’m old…when I catch myself saying lines like that) “you be you, cause you’re the best you I ever did see. And no one is half as good as that!”. Get busy being you, not busy comparing. Ha ha ha ha @relatableinsider 🩷 It’s B.A.B.E.’s birthday 🎂 today but I have been so mega busy I didn’t even get a chance to blow out any candles or sing happy birthday B.A.B.E., or even send you all an email. But being a big fan of all of you I want to say happy day to you! Just cause! Each and every client makes B.A.B.E. worth being here; each and every like is appreciated; every book used and used again melts my heart; and every actor finding more joy in their work, booking more jobs, getting a new agent, finding their way forward in this industry (even when it’s tough - like pandemics and strikes and stuff) - makes me so joyful to be a part of, I could ugly cry.
