POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Obviously I’m a huge #phantomoftheopera fan so I’ve been looking forward to the release of #ourstrangeduet for quite some time. The book is a retelling of Phantom from Christine’s perspective, which seemed like an interesting change to me.

I definitely enjoyed the story and ended up binging the book within a day. It had just the right amount of nostalgia. I’ve been a fan of @penchant4words since I read Thirteenth Child last year, which completely blew me away.

I will say though, this is much more a retelling of the #andrewlloydwebber Phantom as opposed to the original book. I kept hoping for a mention of the torture chamber or the Persian, but I realize this was intended as much more of a love story than a gothic horror. Either way, this is a lovely dark romance to add to your spooky season TBR.

And go check out @masqueradenyc if you want an immersive Phantom experience! by @abandonathena

Spooky season has officially begun. I’m slowly but surely turning the house #halloween friendly and similarly focusing my TBR on all things #horror

I’ll be spending the rest of the week reading the new #chuckwendig which has so far proven to be a witty demon-centered horror fantasy

Book Review

This is my first @cescamajorauthor book and my first five star read in several weeks. The residency follows a single mom and daughter as they go live on an island for a prestigious artist residency hosted by a famous and reclusive artist.

Of course, the island is beautiful but mysterious and their patron is a little bit creepy.

I’m a big fan of the creepy small town trope and when mixed with the haunted art angle, this was an absolute favorite for me.

This one is for the folks that love a slow burn.

Very excited to discover more #arthorror

Book Review

Let me start by saying that @aardvarkbookclub really knows how to pick em. I chose #shesadoll as my August pick and I have zero regrets.

This comedic horror follows the story of a “weird” girl who gets murdered and finds her ghost self inhabiting the body of an old doll. She wants revenge on her killer, but being a haunted doll isn’t easy. Let’s just say she’s no Anabelle.

This book dealt with so many serious topics but in a clever and witty way. I love how unique the story was.

As for the doll in the photo, I picked her up at a creepy little vintage shop in Atlanta. Yes, I brought her home on a flight. I have a love for creepy dolls, but sadly none of them have ever spoken to me like the doll in this book.

Something to look forward to!

Book Review

Of course I had to read the new #rileysager book the second it came out. I look forward to Sager’s releases every summer, and although there have been a handful of misses for me, the Unknown was a truly eerie read.

The book follows an unknown actress who lands a part in an indie horror movie based on a true of story of four women who went missing 100 years prior under suspicious circumstances.

The small movie crew spends a week on the island where the women disappeared to get inside the minds of the characters, kicking things off with a seance. Before long, history starts to repeat itself.

Sager is known for his twists, and this book definitely surprised me.

The book had some lovely homages to old Hollywood. At times it reminded me of the tv show #from with some #shudderisland influences.

Book Review

I was psyched to get an early copy of #womeninwhite by @sarahpekkanen @hauntthereaders

I ended up reading her new book in a single sitting while hanging out in Philly.

I would strongly recommend going into this one blind because I was completely surprised in a good way.

This book is written in multiple POV of a woman who becomes a caretaker for an aging widow as well as the perspectives of four women in the 1960s who end up the subjects of certain psychological experiments. There were major #strangerthings and #theinstitute vibes.

I had such a fun time reading this one!
