My new restoration project (with all that free time 🤪). A 60s Sears Silvertone 1484. The plan is to replace the power cable with a grounded cable, replace all the caps, give the leatherette a good cleaning, an overall cleaning as well. Excited to get it fixed and set up for use at the studio. by @abandonedstudios607

Well this is a first for me. After getting my first Shure 545s I loved the characteristic of its mids so much I had to get another. So I bought this one, which is apparently a first generation 545s! The first round which had a “patent pending” label because Shure had not yet been granted the patent! Super cool. by @abandonedstudios607

Last week we had to say goodbye to our 17 year old cat, Hunter. To say he was a difficult cat would be an understatement. He hated everyone except Mike and me… a fierce protector of our home. But with us, he was the best lap cat. He would sit for hours on our laps while we watched TV, or while I knitted, only requiring head scratches at regular intervals to keep him happy. I kept a cardboard box just for him in my home office next to my desk where he would nap while I worked. He LOVED a good box. He slept in bed with us almost every night until near the end. I had endless conversations with him, and he was always very vocal in response. 17 years is a long time to share your space with another living being, and I am grateful that it was us he chose to trust and love. Nobody else really ever got to see that side of him, but I think we are lucky that we did.

At the end, I could see the fight was gone from his eyes. He was tired, and in pain. But now the house is quiet, and memories of him linger everywhere I look. I find my fingers itching to stroke the soft hair behind his ears. When I come home, I don’t hear him jump from one of his many napping spots to come and meow loudly at me, demanding food and attention. I am no longer woken up in the middle of the night to him standing on my chest… and my heart aches. He was a beautiful, complex boy, and I miss him dearly. by @abandonedstudios607

Picked up these 4 mics recently. An RCA Varacoustic, an RCA 74b, a Shure 545, and a Synchron AU7a!! I’m very excited about the Synchron, one of the first FET condensers with a very warm flat frequency response.

I will be restoring all of these mics, I already built a converter cable and tested the Shure 546 so that’s ready for action. Next up is to re-ribbon the 74b and re-wire an XLR for it. by @abandonedstudios607
