Engr Benyamin Mohammadi (@abaqus_model) modeled the iconic Veresk Bridge in Iran using Abaqus. Built in the 1930s, this bridge is a remarkable feat of engineering that still stands strong today. Its structure is based on a large stone-concrete arch, which carries loads primarily through compression. The simulation was carried out using SIMULIA Abaqus by Dassault Systèmes, an advanced tool for analyzing complex structural behavior-especially under dynamic loads. As part of the study, he performed a parametric analysis by varying the train’s speed and weight to calculate the Dynamic Magnification Factor (DMF) and assess the resulting maximum stresses and deflections. This project was a rewarding experience and a strong reminder of the ingenuity behind historical structures. The glass geometry was recreated from real dimensions, converted into a CAD model, meshed, and imported into Abaqus/Explicit. @abaqus_model Glass mug impact and fracture simulation in Abaqus Explicit. The model uses brittle cracking with the Hillerborg fracture-energy approach and element deletion to capture crack initiation, propagation, and fragmentation. This was the second phase of the project. In the first phase, I used AI and CadQuery to turn the real mug into a CAD model in less than a minute. @abaqus_model I’m surprised by how much faster modeling can be now with AI. For this test, I took a few photos of a real glass mug with visible dimensions and used them to create a simulation-ready model in a very short time. Seeing the real mug and the digital model side by side was probably the most interesting part. I (@abaqus_model) completed a numerical simulation in Abaqus to reproduce the experimental behavior of a reinforced concrete column under combined axial and lateral loading, and it was fascinating to see how closely the model captured both the global load–displacement response and local damage patterns observed in the laboratory. The numerical model was developed and calibrated in Abaqus (SIMULIA) based on the experimental study conducted by Dr. Bahar and Sina Amirsardari at IIEES. This project aims to determine behavioral modification indices for earthquake-damaged reinforced concrete columns, providing better insight into their post-yield performance.
