For most students, engineering is about classes, projects, and placements. For Vaidehi Shiras, it became the start of something much bigger. Driven by her passion for electronics and PCB design, she began working on real-world projects during engineering. What started with designing a customized motherboard for a medical device soon grew into a small PCB design business that she managed alongside her studies.

Balancing coursework and client projects wasn't easy. There were moments when the pressure felt overwhelming, but with the support of her professors and mentors, she kept moving forward. Somewhere along the way, she applied for the ABB Jürgen Dormann Foundation scholarship.

Nearly 2 years later, an unexpected 3 A.M email changed everything. Vaidehi had been selected for the scholarship and an educational opportunity at ABB's research center in Daettwil, Switzerland.

The experience broadened her horizons in ways she never imagined. She connected with scholars from around the world, interacted with ABB leaders, explored emerging technologies, and gained perspectives that extended far beyond the classroom. The scholarship also helped her take a significant step forward in her entrepreneurial journey. She used the support to formalize her business and begin the process of registering it as a Private Limited company.

One of her most memorable moments was performing Lavani in a traditional Maharashtrian Navari saree during the cultural programme, proudly representing her roots on a global stage.

For Vaidehi, this journey was never just about where she could go. It was about what she could build.
