Circus tricks 🎪🤹🤷🏼‍♀️😆

But I also won’t dismiss my circus tricks because I first turned that opening high float into a mic a few months ago as an accident, and then the idea took root that maybe I could do that on purpose 🤔 so I’m proud of that particular circus trick 😆🙏🏻

The poi is coming along, and the goal this week is playing with the transition from rope flow to poi mode and vice versa 🙌🏻

I would also like to report that my rope did not attack me once during this session 🙆🏼‍♀️😆🙏🏻

Not today bruises, not today 🚫

This one’s for my newer flowmies out there!

Underhand sneak can be ridiculously frustrating. But don’t give up! A beautiful sneak can take months (or I’m inclined to even say YEARS) to begin really understanding.

❌ My underhand sneak is FAR from perfect, but it HAS come a long way since I started my flow journey!

✅ These are some of the cues that have helped me to take it from a bit wild to a bit more controlled and nicer to look at.

For all of my advanced flowmies out there, if anything comes to mind, leave a tip that resonated with you when learning UHS in the comments to help the newer folks level up their sneaks! 🔥👊🏻

Let me just say rope flow was not meant to be done in 13 seconds, which is how long I had for this audio 😅

So yah, this sequence was preplanned. Don’t come at me flow police 😆

Hot take- I’m not a fan of how it looks when you just chuck the rope high in the air as a float and catch it. I don’t think it ever “flows” well. But when I saw @_thefitkit_ do this behind the back float, that got me interested. I wondered, could I make that flow seamlessly? Hence my float obsession for the last few days.

So with that in mind, I had a vision of connecting the spin float and the behind the back float and going immediately into a mic and catching into a 360, as you do when you only have 13 seconds 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

AS PROMISED! Because last time I forgot to give you a side view, back view, or slow motion 🤦🏼‍♀️🫠

This time, instead of the 3 beat overhand sneak we learned last tutorial, we will be learning the 2 point (2 beat) overhand sneak and going from one side right into the next 🙌🏻

This is hard. So if you’re struggling, give yourself a lot of grace with this one. But you’ll feel incredible when you unlock it 🤯🙆🏼‍♀️

Disclaimer (because this is the internet 🫠): I am NOT claiming that I have perfect overhand sneak technique. I am still learning and improving mine right along with you! My sneak has come a long way this year, but I still struggle a lot with overhand sneak and am working to improve it and understand it better ever day 🙏🏻

Wasn’t going to post this as a reel, it was the clip that didn’t make the cut for yesterday’s reel 😆🫠

But I can either delete it from my camera role because I’m once again out of storage, or I can leave it right here, so here it is 🤷🏼‍♀️

all the circus tricks I could do in one take 🤹‍♀️

First time going from rope flow mode to poi mode successfully back to rope flow mode, but I didn’t love the last transition and it all needs a bit more smoothing out.

Hope you guys are having the best week. I’m taking care of my mini today who broke her arm yesterday 😭

I’ll probably keep spamming you this week because I have an awesome tutorial filmed that needs a spot on the grid this week, as well! 🤩

This one is for my newer to rope flow flowmies out there 🚨

Here are some underhand patterns I would truly spend a lot of time with before moving on to anything else if I were starting my journey over again.

The biggest mistake I made on my flow journey was not giving these patterns the time they deserved early on.

I jumped right to what I thought was the fanciest patterns I could pull off, but my flow was not smooth, and not so nice to watch.

It was only when I went back to the basics 3 years into my journey that my flow started to look like it does now.

Focus on your weight shifting, focus on your torso bending (we call this coiling), focus on getting the hands closer to the body. See if you can get the rope as vertical as possible.

There’s lot more to focus on, but this is a great place to start if your goal is to put the patterns together into a nice smooth sequence or free flow 🙌🏻

Literally just a girl and her rope 😆🤷🏼‍♀️

Fun fact this was one clip but the atom release that I liked was at the end so I cut it from the back and pasted it at the front so it stood a chance of getting seen, because for some reason I liked how it looked and wanted a record of it’s existence…because if a tree fell in a forest and no one was there to hear it did it make a sound? 😆🤷🏼‍♀️

Anyone want a tutorial on how to catch the atom release (the one where you keep the mic going and eventually catch it)?

I may or may not have already filmed one so you’re getting it whether you like it or not! 😆🙌🏻

Week 2 (what day? How do yall keep count?! 😆) of learning rope flow poi.

First day with my new rope from @bolaflowdojo 🖤💛

I have not been able to put this rope down for 2 days. The weight of the ends and the material of the rope feel like exactly what I needed to keep exploring these new elements of flow that I’m more excited to dive into by the day.

My mind is blown and I’m extremely humbled after dipping my toe into more poi and meteor hammer elements. And I need more!

Thank you thank you @bolaflowdojo for this rope- it’s going to take me new places, I can feel it 😍🙏🏻

‼️ Disclaimer: The overhand sneak is HARD.

I’m still working on my technique over 4 years into my journey. Slowly but surely it’s getting there!

That being said, here is my first ever attempt at demonstrating this pattern 😅

Officially, this version that includes one figure 8 to get the rope back to the other side is called the 3 point overhand sneak.

These are the cues that have helped me improve mine, and I hope they help you dive into this amazing pattern, too!

I did not want to go quietly into my 40s.

So I pulled out my nunchucks. Which I haven’t pulled out in this way in over 20 years, if not more.

I’m a child of the martial arts. And forever grateful for the movement foundation it gave me to build the rest of my movement journey upon.

Somewhere along the way, I felt called to branch out and try new ways to move…yoga, jump rope, rope flow.

But on the eve of my 40th turn around the sun, I felt a pull to come back to my roots.

I definitely need a refresher on ALL of it 😅 my general plan was to go really fast and hope for the best 😆🙌🏻

This feels like coming home. Like I’ve come full circle.

I won’t be putting down my rope any time soon. But maybe my old life has a place with this new one.

Because it feels like my world is expanding in a beautiful, exciting way right now. And I’m excited to see what’s going to happen next in this new decade 🙏🏻

Cheers to chasing joy 🥂 even if I look ridiculous or feel a bit terrified in the process 😆😅🤷🏼‍♀️

And thank you all, above all else, for being here on my journey 🙏🏻
