It’s my birthday today, but it’s also suicide prevention and awareness day and honestly, that means a whole lot more to me. Especially this year.

If you’d asked me a couple of months ago if I’d be here celebrating 24 years, I wouldn’t have been able to answer. I’ve experienced fluctuating mental health issues throughout my life but recently struggled with suicide ideation, reached crisis point. So waking up everyday and today especially, getting to celebrate another year feels pretty fucking incredible. I feel very blessed and I’ve got some bloody good people to thank for that.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a big smile, a loud laugh you can hear from miles away and chaotic energy. I’m so lucky to have people who see beyond all of that: people who noticed when I wasn’t myself behind the mask that’s so easily worn, people who reached out, showed up and reminded me I wasn’t alone. People who, without even knowing it, helped save my life.

That’s why R U OK? means so much to me. Not just asking the question, but genuinely caring about the answer. And not just today. I hope you think about your people tomorrow, next week, next month. Send the random text, make the call and show up for your mates. It really goes along way. Reaching out is hard when you aren’t ok so please reach in if you know someone isn’t.

You never really know what someone is carrying or how much your kindness and time can mean when they’re at their lowest. Human connection matters more than we realise, it’s so special!

My favourite tattoos will always be be good, do good & treat people with kindness - little reminders that every day, we get to choose who we are and how we treat others. Be a good human. Love your people. Smile at strangers. Put good into the world. You truly get out what you put in!

If you’re struggling, all I can hope is that you let someone in. It’s easy to say, I’m ok, trust me, I know. Sometimes you just need to let yourself believe that people care, because they really do. I’m really fucking glad I did.
