One year ago, I moved from Columbus back to my hometown, Grand Rapids. It was such a hard decision, but God was pointing me in every direction except to stay.

What was once home and the place where I began building a life for myself is now a place filled with memories I’ll always cherish and look back on with gratitude.

If I’m honest, though, I still wrestle with how I feel about this city. Columbus brought some of the sweetest blessings and friendships into my life, but it also brought seasons that challenged and stretched me in ways I never expected.

Yet after a year of growth, healing, and reflection, I’m so thankful for all of it. The friendships, the experiences, the lessons, and the season of life that shaped me into who I am today.

Thankful for the hours of FaceTime with family that have now turned into in-person hangouts, and for the new friendships and hobbies that have helped me find myself again.

This past year has taught me that sometimes God asks us to leave places we love, not because they weren’t good, but because He’s preparing us for something different. Looking back, I can see His faithfulness in every step, even in the moments when I didn’t understand where He was leading.

While a piece of my heart will always be in Columbus, I’m grateful for where I am now and for the way God used both cities to shape my story. The people, memories, and experiences from that chapter will always be part of me.

Thank you, Columbus, for being more than just a city to me. You’ve been a meaningful chapter of my story and a reminder that God is always writing something bigger than we can see in the moment.
