This is my “agritopia” project, completed in the first semester of my Masters degree😊 It is a residential project that is lofted above the existing building fabric by an interstitial green space. This building scheme is part of a larger master plan that was developed in group work during the first few weeks of the semester. Each group member chose a block of the site and adapted this conceptual organization to it in different ways. The interstitial space on my block becomes an unconventional park—one that can be explored more in section than in plan. To be honest I don’t feel like writing about the rest of the project right now because I’m tired and still haven’t caught up on sleep lol. Let me know if you’re actually curious and wanna know more😭🤣 #architecture #architecturemodel #architect #architecturestudent #building #design #3dmodeling #sketchup #enscape #college by @abby.architecture
1 year later, My thesis drawing was selected as one of the top works from the Drawing of the Year Awards by @archisource and is being showcased at the London Creates Exhibition Thank you Archisource and congrats to all the others being exhibited :) . Metabolizing Metabolism (PART I: the big drawing) / @abbyhappel / M.Arch Thesis Project / UC Berkeley Spring 2024 @ucberkeleyarch . Thesis Description: Metabolizing Metabolism is a large-scale housing project in the current context of Tokyo, Japan, which esteems the preservation of connections between architecture, society, and nature, all the while adapting and evolving with the progression of time. The project is rooted in my personal understanding of the Japanese metabolism movement from the 1950s; exploring its inherent biological narrative of natural growth and decay through adaptable and reconfigurable construction systems. Breaking down the typical scale of prefabrication approaches used during the metabolist movement, I suggest a system of modular components that can be assembled in countless variations to create inhabitable pods. Facilitated by a network of columns, braces, connectors, and stairwells, the pods can then multiply as a system of their own over the existing neighborhoods of Tokyo. This design promotes flexibility and perpetual change over time, allowing for unique connections and a diverse architectural vernacular that avoids monotony. . A significant portion of my thesis focused on integrating my system into the site without any alterations, AI, or Grasshopper. This process took over a month to complete, and this drawing is intended to capture the essence of that journey. . #architecture #architectureproject #architecturestudent #architect #architecturedesign #design #school #college #architecturelovers #building #ucberkeley #archilovers #architecturedrawing #3Dmodeling #enscape #adobe #metabolism #thesisproject #tokyo #japan by @abby.architecture
