Sometimes, reference for paintings don’t present the best of lighting. This one, from Gloucester, was a a grey day with rain off and on. Very, very flat light.
I liked the size variation of all the buildings which set up a nice opportunity to work with size and contrast to create distance and depth. On Cape you just don’t have large rolling hills which is what initially attracted me to the Govenor’s Park area. The large house on the left side was used as that jam and the houses moving to the right and then left and up the hill created a nice path through and out of the painting .

The weather conditions also gave me some nice color vibrations to work with. Perhaps a larger version at a later time.

Finally finished this one. The tides recession opens a path to explore natures beauty which is usually not seen. Opportunity knocked and I am grateful for it.

I so love this! One of my influences. I remember seeing this painting for the first time, Man-sitting-back-view at the Albrecht Kemper Museum, St Joseph, MO. I was dumbfound that he painted the backside of someone and painted it in primarily white. As a youngster, I thought “what?” Looking closer the color vibrations are what captivated me. A new short film is worth watching. Enjoy.

A new piece I nspired by an early morning walk on the beach. For some reason it reminded me of one of my favorite paintings by Winslow Homer, The Artist’s Studio in Afternoon Fog. Although it is nothing like his painting I am happy with my efforts.

Calling this one finished and now ondering a title. I was attracted three things. 1) The thin line of light running along the edge of the hill creating this intense yellow green. 2) The beautiful aqua of the barn windows and 3) the light reflected off the van, like a modern day Pony Express. Maybe “Special Delivery”. Thoughts anyone?
