Three works from my ongoing series inspired by Mexican jaripeo and charro traditions will be on view at Christie’s London as part of Studio 1766.

Developed from direct experience, photography and memory, the paintings focus on the physical exchange between horse and rider, using fragmentation and motion to evoke the energy of the arena. The works explore fleeting moments of tension, rhythm and transformation, sitting somewhere between figuration and abstraction.

The works are now live at Christie’s and will be on view in London from 26th August - 3rd September, ahead of the auction closing on 3 September.

Found this sketch I did in Mexico last February and realised it was basically the start of all of this.

Since then, one painting has led to another and the work has slowly become less about the subject itself and more about movement.

Currently working on the biggest one yet — 150 × 100cm and very much unfinished. taken in London, United Kingdom by @abbydeakin

I didn’t expect any of this to happen.

I’ve been creating things all my life, but I only started taking painting seriously after coming back from a trip around Latin America last August.

A year later, three paintings from the series that came out of that trip are hanging at Christie’s London — exhibited as part of Studio 1766, included in the auction, and with one somehow ending up in the window on King Street.

I think the biggest thing I’m taking from all of this is to keep making things and putting them out into the world, even when you have no idea where they might lead.

Still can’t quite believe this ❤️

I’ve painted for as long as I can remember, always alongside working as a designer, so having three of my paintings up at Christie’s is pretty mad.

They’re part of Studio 1766, an exhibition and online auction at Christie’s King Street, bringing together work from artists across Christie’s, with the buyer’s premium going to charity.

My three paintings — Passing, Spur & Arena — are from an ongoing series inspired by my love of Latin America and my fascination with gaucho and jaripeo culture.

Seeing them up alongside so many talented artists was amazing, let alone seeing one of them on the side of the building and then finding them on the Christie’s homepage (!!)

We had the private view this week and it was so lovely having so many friends and family there. One of the highlights was being interviewed by @emily.pilling about the paintings, where I got to share a bit more about the story behind them and how I make them. Huge thank you to Emily and Livvie for all the work they’ve put into making the whole thing happen ❤️

And two of the paintings already have bids!! 🥹

They’re up at Christie’s King Street until 3 September so please go check them out if you’re in the area! And all three are available to bid on online until then.
