when people ask me what i do when i go away to the woods for a week every summer, i honestly don’t know how to respond. 5 years at the most magical place on earth, with the people that i hold closest to my heart, teaching kids how to be leaders. i can’t put it into words. saying goodbye to the place where i truly found myself, made huge career decisions, accepted grief, and have grown up has been one of the hardest things i have ever had to do. it’s not the place, it is the people. i have never felt more seen, valued, and loved than i do here. doing the math, i have spent only 29 days at camp. a number so little for the impact it has had. but i have learned and loved 100 lifetimes of what is important in this life at this place.

to my campers: thank you for allowing me your teacher, role model, and person to lean on. i truly believe that people like you will change this world. you don’t understand the love i have for you, and the value you hold in my life.

to jared, jg, leanne, and roberta: your trust in me to uphold this responsibility will forever be something that i am grateful for. the honor of being invited back year after year is something i will never take for granted. you mean everything to me.

to the SCs: thank you for being parents in my life year after year. your impact on me as role models, and the love you have shown me has led me to find myself.

to the JCs: leaving you is something that will weigh on me for awhile, but i know we will meet again in this life or the next. thank you for being my best friends.

to mt. triumph: you are my happy place. thank you for allowing me to be me. how naive was i to think that this was just a leadership camp i was forced to go to to be on asb. for now i will practice sobremesa. i will linger, i will enjoy conversations and the people around me, and i will stay awhile in the feeling and heaviness this camp means to me.
