Macbeth Macbeth Macbeth!

Trying to get more into the habit of keeping the gram updated on what I’m doing post-grad. And this one was pretty cool!

For the past couple months I’ve been touring on the road with some pretty awesome people through @pashakespeare. We performed Macbeth and taught Shakespeare/Acting workshops to over 7000 students across PA, NJ, and DE, and it’s been such a gift. These kids like Shakespeare yall!!! The youth LIKE Shakespeare!!!!! I’ve had such lovely interactions with some very Very bright kiddos, and Wow, the learning goes both ways. I am eternally grateful for the lessons, the people, and this work. Many many many many thanks to all;

Like I said, gush time, and probably the most you’ll ever see me rant on here. But this is worth it I promise. It is the most resonating project I’ve ever worked on. Some of the most fabulous and vulnerable writing I’ve ever seen. I’ve never gotten to play someone like me. I’ve never gotten to play and work in an all queer room. It’s near impossible to articulate just how much of a gift it’s been.

I’ve been watching theaters react to how far to the right the pendulum is at the moment. And I haven’t loved what I’ve seen, though I understand the shift. We’re losing funding, art and self-expression are being targeted. There is a sense of needing to retreat back into the cave out of self-preservation. “Why this play, why now?” Is a big question floating around my brain when disappointment arises as I look at season lineups. It’s easy to feel that things are being contaminated by forces that seek to make queer people smaller. quieter. It’s easy to internalize the sludge. It’s easy to get twisted up.

But queer people are still creating. We’re doing what we can to heal the radiation.

I believe in this work so hard. Why THIS play? Why how? Because we don’t have to stay in the cave. We can live loudly out in the sun.
