“Found Treasure”

My final project of Jewelry and Metals I! I titled this piece “Found Treasure” for a couple of different reasons. Throughout the entire fabrication process, I was trying to figure out what I wanted to set on the ring. It wasn’t until my professor brought out a box full of donated stones that I knew what I wanted to do. These two stones and the beetle bead stood out to me more than anything else in the box and I thought they went together perfectly. The final step of this class was formed by literal “found treasure” but I have come to realize that this whole class was “found treasure.” I made a schedule change before this semester started and took the last spot in this class, and I am so happy that I did. This course taught me so much patience and so many new skills, I had so much fun, and I am very proud of what I accomplished.

(P.S. I know it needs some more cleaning up, I swear i’ll do it soon 🤫)

“No One Is Illegal On Stolen Land”

Don’t forget that this land is stolen. Don’t ignore that most of us are here because our families IMMIGRATED here or were forced to come here by the same kind of oppressors that are leading our country now. Don’t turn a blind eye to the unforgivable things that are being done to HUMANS because of blatant racism and hate. And DON’T let this administrations’ manipulation make you numb to how history is repeating itself.

Staying educated is hard but it’s necessary. Stay informed, use your voice if you are lucky enough to have the privilege to, and let yourself be ANGRY.

“‘Femininity’“

Society’s pressures are a cruel and unusual punishment for being alive. So live life however the hell you want to.

“Too Soon”

First time carving! Really happy with how it turned out :) I used lamination and staining to create the patterns of each of my cats; Marley’s Calico face, Lulu’s uneven white paws, and Pepper’s tabby stripes. Her shape, represents angel Scarlett’s iconic “big stretch!”

Losing a pet suddenly makes you think about the fragility of life and death for the little creatures we call our own. I see her in Marley, Lulu, and Pepper everyday which makes an anxious person like me preemptively grieve their future. It was “Too Soon” for her to go but it’s also “Too Soon” for me to grieve something that hasn’t happened. These thoughts reinforce the value of time with these silly little things that run around rent free in my home. Now I have them all forever in wood <3
