Your worst project might be your best portfolio piece. 👀

We usually want to show only our best work.

But sometimes, the projects we are not proud of teach us the most.

• You made mistakes.
• You tried different ideas.
• You had to redesign it.
• You learned what not to do.
• And most importantly, you improved.

Your portfolio is not only about showing perfect work.

It is also about showing how you think, solve problems, and grow.

So before deleting that “bad” project, ask yourself:

“What did this project teach me?”

You might find that your worst project has your best story. 🔥

I used to think a portfolio was just a place to show nice designs.
But that’s why mine never worked. 🤐

Pretty work is everywhere.
Clear thinking is rare.

Your portfolio should show:
→ how you think
→ how you solve problems
→ what changed because of your design

Not just final screens.
Clients don’t hire you for “nice visuals.”

They hire you because your work feels real, clear, and confident.
Keep fewer projects.

Tell better stories.
Show your process, not just pixels.

If your portfolio looks like a gallery,
you’re missing the whole point.

I learned this the hard way.
For years I focused on making it look beautiful.
Perfect mockups. Clean grids. Fancy animations.

Everything screamed design.
But clients didn’t care.

They didn’t want to see how good I was at decorating.
They wanted to see how I think.

That’s when it hit me.
Your portfolio isn’t a gallery.

It’s a story of how you solve problems.
Show the process.
Show the why behind your choices.
Show the impact.

Because a beautiful portfolio gets you praise.
But a strategic one gets you paid.

Ever felt like you’re just pretending to be a designer? 🤔
You’re not alone.

In fact, every designer starts out pretending.
Yes, including me and probably you too.

Here’s the truth:
→ We all copy cool designs from Behance. It’s how we learn.
→ We follow YouTube tutorials and try to master new skills.
→ We fill our portfolios with fake client work just to show we’re capable.

But guess what?
→ That doesn’t make you a fake designer.
→ It makes you a learner,
A beginner who’s figuring things out,
And that’s way more real than most people admit. 👏

The only way you stay "fake" is if you stop growing.
If you stop learning and improving,
Then, yes, you stop being a true designer.

So, here’s something to ask yourself:

Are you still just making things look pretty?
Or are you starting to solve real problems with your designs? by @abdullah_andozee
