👋 I'm Ash (sometimes Albert)—filmmaker, editor, organizer, friend. Sustain-Release Producer + Bob & Shirley Parent - [email protected]

POSTS STORIES REELS

The Bob & Shirley collective has been the baby of an evolving + morphing collection of humans and friends for over a decade. It’s become a backbone of my social life — growing and evolving over the years, with little pieces of its infant personality still shining through as it gets older.

Things like guest bar shifts during the first part of the night are totally inefficient and certainly don’t save any money, but they’re part of what infuses this project with the love, connection, and DIY nature it came to the world with. As we’ve grown and taken on other things in life, how much we’re able to give to this baby has changed, too, but Halloween has become our staple, a tradition that has outlasted so many different phases of life.

This year, as we build up our communal baby, I’m feeling particularly reflective as I simultaneously build another, quite literal baby inside my actual body with my love @spf___50 (and DJing alongside him, too!). I’m so excited that this little one gets to tag along as we tend to this other B&S baby that’s been growing alongside me for so long— surrounded by all the love and community that pours into it.

@blisspointnyc is proud to share the latest mix in our @thelotradio Residency: two hours of deep & melodic techno from Albert, a DJ, event producer, and pillar of the New York underground.

@abenzwie explores her love of deep, driving and colorful techno, a sound cultivated over many an early morning spent at the center of the music which is only center.

Albert is a New York–based DJ and event producer with a love for the deep and hypnotic. Her sets drift between deep dubby immersive passages into high-energy percussive turns. Guided by curiosity and care, she invites dancers to sink in and lose track of time.

With a background in editing, she approaches each set like building a story—letting every track set a scene, shift a mood, or open a new chapter. Off the decks, Albert shapes spaces for connection as the creative force behind the Bob & Shirley parties and, since 2023, as festival producer for Sustain-Release. by @abenzwie

Spaces that match our needs are hard to come by. Over the years, @sun_brooklyn, Bushwick lofts, @arcana.work, the Boiler long ago, and Beadel Street among others have each given us a home. And just when we thought we were finally priced out of throwing our beloved long-running DIY Halloween party, a kind and like-minded fabrication crew welcomed us into their workspace.

As we plan this party, I kept thinking about what draws me to this tradition in the first place — the feeling of being transported, of music pulling you somewhere deeper. I’ve always been drawn to sounds that feel like spiraling down a tunnel (hello @ptrckrssll — the journeys and landscapes you create in your sets stay with me), and serendipitously, the less obvious dance floor of this very place turned out to be exactly that.

I’m so thankful for this community — for the evolving group of friends, collaborators, and dreamers who make it all possible. The world’s climate is dire, but projects like these remind me how much beauty and connection can still grow in the cracks — and how much more we can build if we refuse to let them stop there. Hope you’ll join us! (Link in bio). 🖼️ is an equisite corpse collab btw @natgirsberger @taialeituala and I. Some 📸 from @pablofrisk + @daniel_tepper by @abenzwie

Introducing Albert [ @abenzwie ] - a New York based DJ and event producer whose influence on the city’s underground spans from the creative force behind the beloved Bob & Shirley parties to her work as festival Producer for Sustain-Release since 2023. Known for emotive, dancefloor forward sets, Albert steps away from her usual selections to explore a more introspective, dubby terrain, laced with her signature storytelling instinct. From percolating textures to soul stirring techno, this mix is a slow burning narrative shaped by her deep intuition and care. True to her documentary roots, each track feels like a scene; carefully chosen, rich with detail, and full of feeling. Like her signature knees-up perch on the edge of a dancefloor, there’s comfort, curiosity, and just the right amount of weird in every transition.

Black Flamingo was one of the first small clubs I came to when Brooklyn’s scene was still just bars with blown-out speakers, underground parties and venues stifled by the cabaret law. It was the spot I turned to when I needed a real dance, a pulse check on the soulful underground, and some tacos to (now some of the best food) I know in NYC.

Over the years, I’ve played here with DJs who started as acquaintances and became close friends. Getting to know @brycedavidnyc & team along the way has been a gift & seeing them push for its presence the last decade has been amazing. So, it only feels right to bring the Bob&Shirley DJ family together one last time to give Black Flamingo the sendoff it deserves.

Join us on Friday February 21st from 10:30pm till late for a night of dancing, deep cuts, and celebration as we say goodbye to a space that’s been a home to so many of us.

Let’s do this one proper. See you on the dance floor. Ticket in bio

I don’t play out all that much, mostly at our own parties, so tonight feels really special especially because I get to do it at my favorite little club @mansions.bar that feels like my living room, alongside the DJ I admire most— @spf___50. I talked to him years ago because he played really good music and I asked if he’d play a little party called Bob & Shirley. A couple years after that he taught me to DJ and a couple years after that he became my partner in errands. He still plays reallllly good music:) Excited (and a little nervous) for tonight!! Oh and thanks @yonahzeitz for the shout out💜 your support feels so nice 😊 by @abenzwie

Pulse check— How are we all doing? -I know..

Within our world’s incredibly destabilizing disposition, I would still like to invite you to come release, gather, discuss, cry, be silly, hug, kiss, DANCE, or whatever it is that you need with us and our B&S family. This Halloween party has become an evolving constant in our lives, and I’d love to share it with you again this year (this time in a sweet warehouse space in East Williamsburg)—>

We’re keeping our *very* special guest under wraps, but I can say they are a powerhouse, both behind the decks and in the studio. We’re also thrilled to announce the long-awaited return of Mooval (@odebla)performing his first live set in five years (come early, this is not to be missed), alongside a deep lineup of in-house selectors: @spf___50 , @mynameisfernelly , cocolynn (@snacksonaplane_ ) and me, Albert.

You can find the ticket link on RA via my bio. Please bring cash and a kind and respectful demeanor :) If you have any questions, you can reach us at bobshirleysays@gmail.com (especially day of, as I’ll miss a lot of my DMs). I really hope to see you all there 💜 by @abenzwie

Our Prospect Park parties started as an answer to get together late pandemic. They also were meant to be “lofi” b&s where we didn’t bring multiple uhauls worth of stuff for just one night (we’re nuts, but we do reuse all our things); the Prospect Park woods felt vibey enough basically as is. Over time our car loads have been multiplying 🙃 and thankfully we’re not in a pandemic (just other earth shattering / awful times) but still this little party continues, and I absolutely love it. Please join us 8.17. Write us at bobshirleysays@gmail.com for the location :) hope to see you there (rain or shine!!) 💜 ps the nerdy editor in me must tell you all that the videos were shot landscape, but the flyer is vertical 😵‍💫 by @abenzwie
