How did we get here? 🥹

Wow, 16. 16 birthdays, a lifetime of I love yous.

I look at these pictures and can still feel your little hand in mine. Somewhere between holding you on my hip and looking up at you, sixteen years happened. And my heart hasn’t quite caught up.

You were growing up, and I was growing into your mama. We learned together. I didn’t always have every answer, but I have never had to question how much I love you.

Thank you for changing my life. For giving me the name “Mommy, ma, bruah”(lol) and making it the most meaningful thing anyone has ever called me. You won’t remember every time I held you, kissed your cheeks, or checked on you while you slept. But I will. I get to carry those pieces of you forever.

Watching you become a young man as well as your own person is such a beautiful privilege, even when I wish I could have one more afternoon with the little boy in these pictures.

As you step into sixteen, remember this: YOU ARE EXACTLY WHO YOU THINK YOU ARE. That confidence, that possibility, that greatness you see in yourself? Trust it. Your mama sees it, too. And on the days you forget, come to me. I’ll remind you.

You never have to earn my love or make me proud to deserve it. You have had it since your very first breath.
