The place where I grew up and always knew I would be again, the place where my heart belongs and my home. There’s something so scary and unsure about picking up your whole life and moving away but also something so freeing and grounding. 1 year ago today we packed up our cars and moved 700 miles away to a small town we had never even stepped foot in. We slept on an air mattress and ate ramen cups and take out while we watched whatever was on TV and asked ourselves what we were doing. Being vulnerable, there were nights when I cried and wondered why I ever moved, why I left my friends and family and how I would ever figure it out. But there were also days when I spent the whole day with a smile on my face and couldn’t believe this is my reality. Here’s to the unknown, the risks, the ups and downs and homesickness. Here’s to a guest room that is always filled and a house that has now become our home and will continue to welcome familiar and unfamiliar faces. If you ever think “should I?” - go for it and it might just all work out.
