So for those who don’t know, prior to 2023, I didn’t really read romance books. I mainly read fantasy or just contemporary fiction, but all of that changed when I read Ali’s books (The Love Hypothesis of course) for the first time.

She had brought me so much joy and a new love for reading, and I have been extremely grateful to have had many opportunities to give back to her a tiny piece of what she’s given me through her books.

I’m so happy you all love my Ali Hazelwood Book Club crewneck as much as I do, and just know that Ali and I are matching all of you too! 💖

✩ meet the bookstagrammer ✩

I’ve never done one of these before, and it’s a new year, so I thought maybe now is a good time to introduce myself!

I started my booksta last year, and it has pretty much been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Not only do I cherish being in a community of readers, but I’ve made so many friends because of it - and they’ve all changed my life too.

As a creator here in the bookish space, I really aim to use my platform to uplift underrepresented communities, and will always fight for representation in our media!

Some of you may also know me as the artist who goes around and gifts authors merch for their books! I absolutely love anything crafty, and I’ve found such a passion for finding a small way I can give back to authors and thank them for writing what they do! 🖤

Some of my goals (in no particular order) for the future of abitofmagick are:
✩ Make more bookish merch, and eventually share it with you all!
✩ Travel more and maybe even do some book cons!
✩ More rebinds/fic binds
✩ Finish writing my book (?they say hopefully?)
✩ Get invited to the premiere of The Love Hypothesis (crazy I know!)
✩ Make more friends !!!! ♡

BAD WORDS 📖

It’s been one whole week of Bad Words, and I am so excited to celebrate @rioghnachrobinson tonight at @therippedbodice 🧡🩷🩵♥️

Now, because this design is not the most practical, I made a more neutral toned one for everyday wear! (Swipe to the end to see it)

Bad Words is a sharp, enemies-to-lovers debut novel about a public viral feud between author Parker Navarro and literary critic Selina Chan. What started as a harsh rivalry, slowly evolved into a fiery romance.

I am also currently obsessed with Ríoghnach’s webtoon comic, Angel of Death, and will definitely be talking about it more when I get deeper into the story!

2005, 2019, and 2026 walk into a camp full of demigods…

And LOST THEIR MIND ✨✨✨

I still can’t believe I got to meet Rick Riordan, and am SO grateful to have been apart of this event that @randomhousekids and @getunderlined hosted!

It was a dream come true to not only get to talk about these books that shaped my childhood with other readers who felt the same way, but to then see that these stories are evolving for the better. The amount of love and passion that @annabelleohauthor @kylelukoffwrites @jadeadia @phcartaya had all spoke of for their characters, their stories, it makes me truly excited for the new group of demigods to grow up with. To see an accurate portrayal of kids that look just like them.

In this new series, we get to see what happens at Camp Half-Blood outside of Percy’s main quests. The Wild Zone (book 1) takes place during the autumn season between The Lightning Thief and The Sea of Monsters. This series will follow Katie Kim (book 1), Harper Rush (book 2), Zuri Chapman (book 3), and Benny Garcia (book 4).

I am so excited to read this series, and to dive back into the world of gods and monsters 🧡

Earlier this year @savethekitrosewater had mentioned she was looking for a few adventures to embark on the Buried Feelings arc tour, and so of course @abigael_reid and I had to partake!

I wanted to share my journal entry (no spoilers!) and I am so happy I got to be a part of this project!

Buried Feelings is a queer YA romcom about two estranged best friends forced back together by a high-stakes treasure hunt in San Francisco.

OUT NOW !! And as you all know, @susanleewrites DOES NOT MISS. I’ve had this gem of a book since July, and I’m so excited everyone gets a little bit of Christmas magic early 🎁✨

HAPPY FAKE DATING WEDNESDAY 🩵

It’s officially release day for @thelovehypothesismovie and my excitement is just as high as it’s been since this movie was first announced!

I am always immensely grateful for Ali and her books, she’s the first author who made me fall in love with contemporary romance, and I will always be utterly obsessed with her books.

I love this movie so much, and am so beyond excited to talk to each and every one of you about what you think. I am so grateful to work with Ali and her team, and for all the opportunities I’ve been given thus far.

I can’t wait to watch this movie again tonight with some of my friends (including @covalentchronicles because we’ve been talking about a Wednesdate for this movie for forever)

Ik Hou Van Jou 💕

I got my preorder from @litandleafybooks and I love her so much 🥹 My movie tie in cover now matches my original cover copy since it’s personalised to Mr. Antagonistic and Unapproachable 🤭

You also all know me, and I’m terrible at keeping secrets (I try so hard but I just get so excited) but here is a sneak peek for an upcoming design that will be dropping on Wednesday! This is not the final complete design, but I absolutely love how it turned out and it’s definitely a subtle nod to The Love Hypothesis movie 🩵

GRIM TIDINGS 🪽🪦

I am utterly obsessed with this book. The story, the characters, the writing? Grim Tidings has easily become one of my favourite romance books of all time.

I first read Good Spirits last Christmas with @abigael_reid when we did our yearly buddy read. I loved the world of magic that BK intertwines within her stories, and it was AMPLIFIED in this book.

I saw myself in Darcy, I fell in love with Gabriel, and wished I had my own Tater Tot (Spud).

Beware, this book WILL make you ugly sob. I’m so grateful I could spend this night with some of my favourite people too, it made it even more special 🥰🖤

There is something so cathartic about being reminded what the true American dream is. And I’m not talking about what corrupt politicians or unethical billionaires believe the American dream to be, but instead what Immigrants, Refugees, and other Asylum Seekers KNOW it to be. And as @kehuyquan said last night: (The) American Dream is being allowed to try.

I, like many other Asian Americans and Asian Immigrants, had a life changing moment when Everything, Everywhere, All at Once came out. I felt like for the first time in Hollywood, we saw what representation truly looked like in the media. A movie centered on characters who looked like us, and who had backgrounds like us, and yet their whole story wasn’t about BEING asian. It was a part of their identity, but it wasn’t their only identity. And when Ke made his Oscar acceptance speech, it’s safe to say there was not a dry eye in the whole world. I have been a fan of Ke my whole life, I grew up on his movies, but in that moment I felt like I saw myself.

For those who don’t know, I moved to NYC to pursue a career in acting. With a pandemic, a country on fire, and a critical lack of diversity, this path hasn’t been easy. There are times when I question whether I am making the right choices, whether I need to change my pathway before it becomes too late. But then I remind myself that a path isn’t always linear. That just because my journey takes me on a few adventures along the way, it doesn’t mean my destination can’t remain the same. Last night Ke said: The road isn’t always easy, and that’s okay. You have to keep on it.

I am so grateful for @strandbookstore for hosting this event, and am beyond excited to read Never Say Die. And I am NOT a memoir girlie. But this is so much more than a memoir.
