Building a side hustle after work, or spending the next 10 years wishing you did?

Every other season, a new side hustle. 20 years behind the bar.
Landscaping. Shirts. E-commerce. Bulding a restaurant. Rideshare. Day trading. Photography. All of it while pouring drinks at night.

Most of it failed. All of it taught me something.

Then we bought a house. Renovated it. Moved out. Listed it on airbnb. Are we really doing this? 😳

Nothing was wasted. It was all just training and timing.

Now I househack. Scottsdale Phoenix STR owner. Finally building something . The exit wasn't in the side hustles, I found it through my front door.

Follow the journey. 🍸→🏡

Our Airbnb pays for our vacations.

Waldorf Astoria Orlando Almost FREE
Booked through Amex Platinum Fine Hotels + Resorts. $250 hotel credit, points covered the rest, free breakfast for two, $100 resort credit.

Every short term rental expense : cleaners, turnovers, supplies- runs through this travel rewards card. The points stack up, then they fund trips like this.

Airbnb host tip: put your STR expenses on a points card and let your business pay for your vacations. taken in Waldorf Astoria Orlando by @aboutwoo

Not sure if I can offer this level of hospitality for my short term rentals. 🤔

There is no "No" at the Waldorf Astoria.

Every request has been
"Absolutley Mr. Woo"

- Can we have a view? Absolutely
- Can we have a view of the fireworks? Absolutely
- Can we have a late checkout? Absolutely
- Turndown service? - Absolutely

Anyways....

Happy Birthday Hinatea.

$6 lunch. Hot dog and a slice. 🌭🍕

Everything's on a budget for me - so the guest experience is on point.

Every dollar I don't spend on myself goes into the properties. Not sure if thats a fair deal. Lol.

Even my kids say the rentals have all the nice things. 😆 🤣 😂. taken in Scottsdale, Arizona by @aboutwoo

A crappy Monday.

Dead car battery mid guest-transition. Power outage texts. No hot water. Someone broke into my garage and stole my wife's pink carry-on. caught on Ring.

Shoulder's still an 8/10. 😖😭

Then I saw a pageant video of my wife from 25 years ago for the first time. Keep replaying it.

It puts a smile on my face.
This turned out to be a great Monday.

Just finished watching The Bear.

Wow... f#@&in C-folds. 😆😂🤣

The restaurant industry family part is so real. There is no other family like it. Chaotic. Dysfunctional. And fiercely loyal.

My small circle of lifelong #friends was formed from this beautiful mess.

Didn't know how much I missed it. 6 years out.

STR on pause... stage for a season.
Maybe I should pick up a shift or two. Who's hiring? Just want to yell at someone for a second, cool off in the walk-in, and apologize outside over a cigarette. 😆

Throwback
Circa 2019. $150 an ounce - Louis XIII.
Some nights the restaurant life poured different. 🥃
