One of my sad experiences from this IT process Kaiiiiiiiiiii 🥲😅😅 by @abraham00767
Month 4 of 6: Still reading water, but deeper now* 💧 In Week 7, I was preparing solid media — Nutrient Agar, MacConkey, EMB — to culture microbes from water samples. Yesterday, in Month 4, we went back to the beginning of the process: Lactose Broth. Why does this matter🤔 Lactose Broth is the presumptive test. It tells us if coliforms are present by watching for gas and acid production from lactose fermentation. If it’s positive, it goes to MacConkey and EMB for confirmation. If those are positive, it means fecal contamination is likely. So basically: Lactose Broth = Is something there? MacConkey/EMB = What exactly is there? In Environmental Management and Toxicology, this chain is how we protect public health. One tube of broth can stop an outbreak before it starts. One positive result can trigger treatment, remediation, and policy action. From solid plates to liquid broth, my eyes are opening. Water testing is not just analysis. It is early warning. We don’t just test water. We defend it. by @abraham00767

‎Week 7 of INDUSTRIAL TRAINING ‎Reading water like a book ‎ ‎This week I was involved in preparation of nutrient media, ‎Nutrient Agar for general growth, MacConkey Agar to spot coliforms, ‎EMB Agar to confirm them. ‎Then we cultured microbes straight from water samples and watched what grew. ‎ ‎We also started determining water hardness. I’m still wrapping my head around the chemistry, but one thing is clear: every number, every colony, is a signal. ‎ ‎In Environmental Management and Toxicology, these small tests are big decisions. ‎That cloudy colony on MacConkey? It can mean fecal contamination. ‎That hardness value? It tells us about pipes, health, and treatment costs. ‎ ‎Science doesn’t just diagnose water. It diagnoses how we’re treating our environment. ‎ ‎As someone stepping into leadership in this space, my job isn’t only to run tests. It’s to translate them. ‎To push for cleaner sources, better waste management, and policies that protect what we drink, cook with, and give our kids. ‎ ‎The environment speaks in microbes and minerals. My role is to listen, and then act. ‎ ‎What’s one water habit you’re changing this year? ‎ ‎#EnvironmentalManagement #Toxicology #WaterQuality #MicrobiologyLab #NutrientAgar MacConkey EMBAgar WaterHardness ScienceForImpact FutureEnvironmentalLeader ProtectOurWater LabLife by @abraham00767
