All AI agents are not created equal.

Use faster, lower-cost models for routine tasks. Bring in stronger reasoning models for complex planning and decision-making.

Humans should always be responsible for judgment, context, and final approval.

You wouldn’t ask your most experienced strategist to handle repetitive grunt work. And you wouldn’t put the intern in charge of your company’s most important decisions.

Know how to build and manage the right team of agents for the work.

I recently sat down with Abran Maldonado of Create Labs Ventures to talk about something bigger than tech: how AI can shift not just a mindset, but a country's trajectory.

We focused on Puerto Rico — an island that's endured more in 5 years than some nations face in a decade, and despite being American soil, has largely weathered it alone. Still, the resilience is undeniable.

PR's culture spans the globe, with community in nearly every major American city. This is a conversation about that culture's future in the AI era.

As two Latinos in AI, both with deep ties to the island, this was personal. I'm asking you to repost — not for the likes, but for the awareness.

If nobody's going to stand up for Puerto Rico, we have to stand up for ourselves. We've done it before, and we can do it again. This time, smart — with AI.

Now is not the time to put our heads in the sand.

AI systems are becoming more capable, more autonomous, and harder to contain. We need stronger safeguards, thoughtful regulation, independent testing, and real accountability from the companies building them.

But fear cannot be our only response.

The achievement gap, opportunity gap, employment gap, and digital skills gap already exist. If underserved communities completely disengage from AI while the rest of the world learns to use it, those gaps will only grow wider.

I train people to use AI because I see access and literacy as matters of economic survival.

We cannot build solutions, protect our communities, or influence how these systems evolve if we do not understand the tools ourselves.

Yes, there’s Ultron—but there’s also Tony Stark.

Yes, there’s the Matrix—but there’s also Neo.

Where would the world be if the people who care most about humanity refuse to participate?

We should challenge reckless development while preparing our communities for the world already taking shape. We can demand safety and still build. We can question the technology and still learn how to use it responsibly.

I don’t want our communities holding candles while the rest of the world flips a switch.

Let’s learn together. Let’s build with purpose. And let’s make sure we have a voice in what comes next.

When family wins, we all win...
Angle Bush, founder of Black Women in Artificial Intelligence, has been named to the 2026 TIME100 AI list—and we couldn’t be prouder.

Years before ChatGPT was released, Create Labs gave Black Women in AI access to the early OpenAI GPT models. We were trying to use this new era of technology for the right reasons: to create access, opportunity, representation, and real impact in the world.
Angle understood early that we couldn’t build the future of AI without Black women being in the rooms—and in the labs—where that future was being created.
She didn’t wait for permission. She built the community, opened doors, created opportunities, and challenged this industry to think more intentionally about who gets to participate in the AI revolution. She graciously returned the favor and introduced us to Nvidia which has led to our ongoing social impact partnership.

It’s powerful to watch the world recognize work that many of us have witnessed up close for years.
I can’t wait to see what comes next for Angle and the entire Black Women in AI community. I’m simply grateful that Create Labs and I have had a small place in their story.
Congratulations, Angle. This recognition is well deserved.
