Congratulations to our Staff Member of the Week, Emma Terri!

The special education teacher received two nominations. Here is what our Astros had to say:

"Emma hit the ground running as a first-year teacher by executing her very first Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting with the confidence! Her dedication to truly understanding her students' unique needs right out of the gate has allowed her to build an exceptionally safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment. No matter what new challenge comes her way, Emma tackles it head-on with resilience, enthusiasm, and grace. Way to go, Emma!" ~ Meghan Glavas

"Huge shoutout to Emma Terri for Staff Member of the Week! Even though it's only her first year of teaching, she is already going way above and beyond every single day. The way she leads her classroom with so much love, care, and attention for her students is amazing to watch. She's already showing awesome leadership skills and is such a great asset to our SPARK team. We're so lucky to have you. Keep up the incredible work, Emma!" ~ Jasmine Brown Woman holding an Astro trophy in a classroom with bookshelves and educational materials on the walls. by @absastros

Mentoring aspiring musicians!

Community High School District 218's (CHSD 218) Windows of Opportunity (WOO) Academy held its orientation at the Lyric Theater on Sept. 24. This mentorship program began last school year through a partnership with The Common Ground Foundation.

At the event, the CHSD 218 cohort of 60 male students heard from professionals in the music industry, including Mary Datcher, founder of Global Mixx Music & Film Company. She was the keynote speaker at the event. Attendees also watched singer Opal Staples perform and listened to advice from DJ Slugo.

Superintendent Dr. Josh Barron spoke at the event. It was attended by State Rep. Will Davis, who purchased 20 WOO ties at a cost of $25 per tie to support the WOO Academy! Thanks to all who are supporting our WOO Academy students! Large group of people standing on a theater stage under spotlights, appearing to be at a formal event. by @absastros
