Guys…I know you think I’m done posting, but I saved the best beaches for last….we spent our last few days in Tavira (eastern Algarves) and it was heaven. The first beach, called Praia de Cacela Velha, I was told about by a Maplewood ex pat now living in Portugal and a local tour guide. You need to take a small boat across the marsh (1.50 euro) to gain access to the most beautiful, white sand beach of your dreams. The seaside restaurant there took my breath away (audible moans that embarrassed my young companion). Another beach we visited in the area required a quaint train ride to an expansive beach with dining and lounge chairs and some kind of pineapple milkshake that had no business being so good. What we learned on all of our beach adventures is that there is a beach food beloved by the Portuguese called bola de Berlim. It is a DONUT. And each beach has their own purveyor who has exclusive rights to sell their dessert. They have many different fillings: crème, Nutella, pistachio etc. At first I doubted this beach treat thinking of the beach food I grew up with visiting Manhattan beach with my grandparents in Brooklyn (hot knish and fudgy wudgy being my only experience), but let me tell you these donuts were incredible. And I should know because I ate one at every beach. All in all this was an incredible vacation and one I highly recommend. If ever you find yourself thinking of going to Lisbon, the Algarves or Seville please reach out. I did hours and hours of research and drove myself crazy, but my insanity is your gain. From Lagos we drove to Seville. It is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen. Our hotel was in a 17th century home and I don’t think I’ve ever stayed somewhere that felt so transportive. We walked everywhere in the Santa Cruz district and visited the Royal Alcazar and its gardens (insanely beautiful). One afternoon I went out in my own and found the ceramic store of my dreams which was filled with antique tiles and pottery. We went to a flamenco show and ate more tapas than is legal…the gazpacho, served in a glass, was perfection in the heat. When planning the trip I wasn’t sure we should take the time to go Seville. I will never doubt that city again. by @absong

Next we drove from Lisbon to Lagos stopping in Porto Covo on the west coast for lunch. We spent 4 days in Lagos and had so much fun driving around exploring the area. We took a boat tour of the grottos, hiked the fisherman trail between Burgau and Salema, did a sunrise kayak tour of the Benagil Caves, discovered dinosaur footprints on the beach, charming seaside restaurants, delicious food and innumerable beaches of staggering beauty. by @absong

Finally getting around to posting pictures from our mother daughter trip to Portugal and Spain. It was a magical vacation that went so smoothly I almost can’t believe it: easy flights, quick customs, amazing accommodations, delicious food and the beaches…well you will see. This batch of photos was taken in Lisbon. We spent two nights and I could have definitely stayed longer. It’s a city that feels both relaxed and exciting. Nothing felt demanding and that’s exactly what we needed. by @absong

Happy birthday to my 16 year old Penelope 🥰. She spent the day at the beach celebrating with friends and because she doesn’t want me to post a picture of her, I am doing a slideshow of greatest hits because she deserves all the love and attention. Penelope is epically smart and hard working. She has the most dry sense of humor and she can dazzle you and stop you in your tracks with her unwavering stare. We dropped Charlotte off at college this week in what felt more like a vacation than a move. We spent a couple of days exploring the city before moving Charlotte into her room and we had so much fun: shopped on Church Street, swam in Lake Champlain, went to the farmers market and had dinner with her roommate and her family. Burlington is a city that keeps growing on me every time I visit. The food, the water, the people are all amazing. The city feels like Charlotte and that made the drop off a little bit easier, but the truth is I left a good chunk of my heart in that city. I love this person so, so much. We had one full circle moment the morning of move in. After waking Charlotte up I noticed something shockingly familiar. I quickly took a picture not even sure what memory was being triggered. And then I remembered, one of my favorite baby photos of Charlotte, almost the exact same pose 18 years later. We laughed and laughed at the similarities, but it was a reminder for me and a gift. No matter where Charlotte is, no matter how old, she will always be my baby. Have the best time Charlotte. You always have a home with me ❤️ by @absong

This person, my baby, is a high school graduate❤️ I couldn’t be more proud. It’s not possible for me to love her more. What a kind, funny, smart, sensitive, empathetic, curious and courageous human being she has turned out to be. She’s more than ready to start the next stage of her life and I’ll always be by her side cheering and supporting. Here are some photos from graduation. The last two slides are some of my favorite graduation traditions: cap decorating and Midnight Madness (where buses drive through town taking all seniors to a secret destination that lasts the entire night). by @absong
