Annalise, during a stint in Jax…can’t believe it’s been 10 years since this timeframe…having a muse to work with during that stretch was such a needed escape and she’s probably the only model I’ve ever had, that wanted to shoot as often as I did…2013 was a rough one, going from my passion of shooting sports to working at a call center…that year is probably why I chose to live outside societal norms once I moved back to California; growing roots and having overhead got scary…it’s been a wild ride…still is…but at least the book will be interesting 🤷🏻‍♂️; certainly keeps me on my toes.

Strangest thing about that time was, she got me smoking cigarettes, again, after five years away from the stupidity (I kicked the habit, for good, a couple years later) but had she not been an ass and asked me if I wanted one every time she lit up, I may not have called my old assignment editor while I was on my back porch…smoking. I’d get bored while satisfying a craving and scroll through my phone looking for someone to call…I joke and say ‘smoking saved my life’…that call certainly did. It sounds dramatic, 100%…but if you knew the headspace I was in, you’d understand the realness of that statement.

A week and a half later, I was driving back to San Diego with everything I owned jammed into my Rav4 with more of the market share than I’d originally asked for. I’d walked away from shooting for the wire service, due to standing my ground on assignment splits and drove back nine months later with 100% of the market I’d asked for 50% of.

I could be bitter about how it eventually ended but I’m thankful I've moved on to something that will be more rewarding long-term: surf photography/videography. I don’t claim to be a psychic but I’m on the right path…mine. ✌🏼 taken in Jacksonville, Florida by @abstractseagull

Was stoked to see some of my Hawaiian friends get to experience my hometown in an event put on by @jquinny (shown here at my 2nd of 3 homes, Cardiff, CA) on an epic Florida swell for for a longboard contest @loggerheadclassic As always, @angiessubshop was my top recommendation for places @bella_eberz and @izumo____ and others had to visit...glad they got to experience one of my first stops on trips back home...good reviews were reported back, Ed. 🤙. The ho-made brownies were a hit. taken in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California by @abstractseagull
