As someone who felt like a perpetual outsider my whole time in high school, summer was always the time when I was forced to truly realize that I didn’t have many friends and honestly I thought that’s how it would be forever. I thought I’d be ready to pack up and go to college but now packing my clothes to go I find myself in tears.
I’m surrounded by so many people I love so much I don’t know what I’m supposed to do without them. For one of the first times ever I don’t feel like I’m alone anymore and discovering this only to leave it has been the heartache of a lifetime.
I truly love you all and am so glad to be able to call you all my friends. While this is goodbye this isn’t the end, no matter the distance I will care for you all still the same. I’ll see you again next time, don’t be stranger ❣️- Bayne <3 by @absurd_it

I remember when I went to my first debate tournament my freshman year. It was the Washburn Rural opener and my novice partner had just canceled on me so my entry was dropped, I wanted to go so Maranell let me go as an observer. I watched 2 important rounds that day, Chris and Jack’s Swam K & Nik and Austin’s Black Matrix Aff. That wasn’t the moment that made me interested in debate, that was the moment I realized it is what I wanted to do. It was then when I realized I wanted to play this game more than anything I have ever wanted in my life. I have dedicated the past four years of my life to the fulfillment of a dream realized on flow in the classroom of Washburn. Whether it was spending weeks each summer at debate camp (couldn’t have happened without the work both my parents put in to support me), staying after school til 7pm working on debate, cutting cards in other classes, or coaching myself through my junior year of high school - I have put so much into this.

So it is with joy and the love the continues to push me that I announce to you all that I plan to continue debate at the University of Southern California.

I know that USC is the place for me. Their school’s motto “Fight On” - the dream that can only be realized through the fire of pure obsession. I plan to keep scaring you all, and promise I’ll take care of myself.

What did I learn from this tournament?
You can’t read defense and a counterplan, vague affs are bad, global warming is good, and u should probably prep all the affs a team has.

On some real stuff tho I’m so grateful to my coaches Krouse, Quinn, and Nathan without them none of this would be possible and it especially wouldn’t be possible with my debate partner @brucie_boy02 thank god he trusts me as a 2N but that’s a wrap, senior year state is done soooooo tell ur coaches ya want a new assistant next year 😉

This year has been tough.
Let’s be honest, coming into this season with no coach was not what sophomore Bayne thought their junior year was going to be. That was until my head Coach Natalie Akers stepped up, a first year teacher and coach who has continued greatly to my success this year. Making sure we could even go to tournaments she kept Lansing Debate and Forensics afloat.

This was my first year doing LD! I’ve had great success being Lynx Taylor’s 2nd at every tournament lol (I couldn’t have been happier), but beyond that qualifying to both NSDA and NCFL has been amazing. Let’s give credit where credit is due tho @allllly.cat has been my LD coach all of 2nd semester and is the only reason why today I can call mystery an LD double-octofinalist. Minus LD Coach Allyson I would still be stuck in pfd 😭.
