Summerville Police say their K-9 unit trains every week to stay sharp. That includes everything from narcotics detection to searching buildings and tracking suspects.
Now the department is asking local businesses and property owners if they’d be willing to let officers use their spaces for training. Police say practicing in real buildings and environments helps prepare the dogs for the situations they may face on the job.

A Berkeley County deputy collapses after being exposed to fentanyl during a routine search, caught on body cam in real time.

The sheriff says this moment will now be used as a training tool to help protect other deputies on the front lines.

A long, unusual day in the town of Sullivans Island yesterday after a man struck two children and one adult with a vehicle at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, then fled the scene on foot with a knife. This happened around 12:30pm, and he was finally found just before 6pm hiding in a boat.

Got the chance to put my breaking news hat back on yesterday and watch all the action unfold as Sullivans Island Police, along with police from surrounding areas, SLED, US Marshals, and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office searched the entire island to find the suspect. taken in Sullivans Island by @acbarkermedia

In honor of Women’s History Month, I had the honor of getting to hear Lori Bayer’s amazing story of resilience and inspiration through her breast cancer journey. Instead of letting a challenging time in her life defeat her, she used it to fuel her passion for others by starting a non-profit organization to help women with breast cancer and their families with financial assistance when they need it most.

Lori is a true example of what it means to be a Remarkable Woman, and I had the best time getting to know her yesterday!!! Her ability to use a dark time in your life to bring light into others is just one of the many reasons she was chosen as a nominee for Remarkable Woman of the Lowcountry 💖

I’m excited to be getting started on my first traffic piece with News 2, especially on an issue that residents say has affected their daily commute for far too long.

After a nearly 8 year-long wait, West Ashley and John’s Island residents may finally see some relief from their traffic woes.

Charleston County officials say they plan to start on the US-17 and Main Road Project within the next 60 days. The plan includes improvements that the county says will provide a safer and more efficient access point on and off Johns Island by improving the intersection at US-17 and Main Road.

This morning I spoke with Patrick O’Brien, a long-time West Ashley resident who commutes to Kiawah Island daily for work. He says the intersection of US-17 and Savannah Highway is “one of the worst in Charleston,” from long wait times at traffic lights, to impatient or distracted drivers making dangerous decisions and putting others at risk. He tells me he believes this project will help solve some roadway issues that West Ashley and John’s Island residents face daily, and is glad that this plan is finally coming to fruition.
