We have some new followers so I thought I’d re-introduce myself!

My name is Kelly and I’m the CEO of Access Trax. I grew up in San Diego and went to San Diego State U for a degree in Biology and the University of St Augustine for Health Sciences for a Masters in Occupational Therapy. I am passionate about the disability community because my mom was disabled. When I was 12, she suffered a massive stroke and I started to see the world differently. I wanted to become an OT so I could help people like those who helped my mom recover.

It was during a school project at the U of St. Augustine in 2016 where the concept for Access Trax was born. My classmate and I were inspired by the need of adaptive surfers to cross sand in their wheelchairs so they can focus on doing what they love instead of stressing about how they’ll get there. This is why we invented the portable access mats. Testing our project with adaptive surfers and hearing their feedback and sense of independence is what sparked a sense of responsibility to bring this solution to the world. 6 months after graduating, we launched the company in 2018.

Fueled by the determination to make the outdoors more accessible for all, and with the support of the community, I have been growing Access Trax since 2018. I am grateful for the opportunity to be an ally and also honor my mom’s memory. Entrepreneurship is not easy, but it gives me purpose and I love to hear from anyone who has been impacted by our work. I strive to be a problem-solver in all that I do.

Thank you for following our journey at Access Trax! We would not be here without the help of so many people and organizations. You know who you are 💙🙏🏼

If you ever have any questions about our mission or solution, feel free to reach out!

Sometimes the simplest solutions make the biggest difference. Not only do Mobi Mats give wheelchair users a path down to the sand, they also help families pushing strollers and seniors who need extra support.

And beyond the permanent Mobi Mats on the sand, @accesstrax brought out extra all-terrain mats for our adaptive surf lessons and bonfire night: key partners making sure every part of the beach was reachable.

Even better, it gives you the chance to have some much-needed fun on the beach. @surfcityUSA isn't just known for surf culture and a cool vibe. They also focus on accessible tourism. A big part of that has been joining Accessibility Verified, where local hotels, beaches, attractions, and restaurants were mapped for accessibility.

There are moments that seem so simple.

Following Charlotte across the grass to the swing set. Making my way across the sand to the water. Spending an afternoon at the lake and getting to go wherever she decides we are going next.

They are the kind of moments I don’t ever want to take for granted.

I’ve talked a lot about learning to color outside the lines, about letting go of the idea that life has to look a certain way in order for it to be full. Motherhood has made me understand that in an entirely new way.

Because so much of this season is made up of the seemingly little things.

Pushing her on the swing. Following her down to the beach. Sandy toes and one more trip to the water. Being able to say “I’ll be right there” when she takes off toward whatever has caught her attention next.

I know those things might sound small. But to me, they’re not.

They are afternoons at the lake. They are pieces of her childhood and my motherhood that I get to be right in the middle of.

They are memories.

And I’m really grateful for the things that make more of them possible. 🤍

(And especially grateful for @accesstrax for making a few more of those “be right there” moments possible. And Charlotte loves that it extends where her scooter can take her ☺️) by @accesstrax

Did you know Huntington Beach has Access Trax that roll out directly onto the sand? 🔥

That means the fire pit, the s'mores, the sunset — all of it is reachable.

Huntington Beach is Accessibility Verified — we mapped exactly where the mats start so you can just show up and enjoy.

Today, October 1st, marks the 10 year anniversary that our occupational therapy school project became so much more. That early morning in 2016, we got to try out the access mat prototype with adaptive surfers at a @surfwsa contest in Ocean Beach. Their feedback would inspire us to keep moving forward with the idea, and work hard to bring the solution to the real world. On this day a whole decade ago, we felt inspired to build a product and a brand that would empower millions of people around the world to have better access to the outdoors.
It’s an honor to serve the disability community. THANK YOU for this journey and to all who have been a part of it ❤️ Cheers to many more years of impact.

I've shown up places and the ramp was decorative. The roll-in shower had a four-inch lip. The "beach access" was a sign pointing at sand.

So we started by going first. Huntington Beach: we rolled it, measured it, documented it. Bed heights, sand mats, beach wheelchair availability, shower dimensions. All of it written down so you don't find out on arrival.

One wheelchair user to another. You deserve actual data, not vibes.

Find verified accessibility info for Huntington Beach and more destinations at link in bio.
