Honored and blessed to capture my 2nd NoGi Pan Am Title 🥇 and this time at M1 Brown Belt

🟫🟫🟫⬛️🟫

Everybody was tough and made me work which makes the victory all the much better 💯

I had 3 submissions and 1 decision 8-0 in the final. I had a couple of submission attempts in the final but wasn’t able to capitalize on them like I would have preferred.

Out of every match I was only scored on once which I highly respect but tbh I don’t like. I want complete and total dominance - It’s just my mindset 💯

I hurt my knee in the final but managed to still win the match. I’m just gonna rest and take time off, RICE it, and begin preparation for Worlds 🌎 💯💯💯

The moment I injured my MCL in the NoGi Pan Am Finals 😬

My opponent later told me that he could hear my ligament popping in his ear when it happened 😖

The best way I can describe what we both heard would be comparable to the sound of a tree branch snapping in half 🪾💥🪵

I only had about 1:40 left to finish the match when they asked if I wanted medical attention.

I declined 🙅🏽‍♂️

My adrenaline was running wild through me ⚡️ and I knew it would only be a matter of time until it wore off.

I waved 👋🏽 the medics off ⛑️ and finished the match to win.

I hit a takedown and had a decent Armbar 💪🏽💥🦴 attempt towards the end but ultimately gave it up when I realized there was a possibility I could compromise my knee further.

I used my guard for the first time ever at an @ibjjf event and held out the remainder of the match to get that Gold 🥇

PLENTY of training with @masonamitrano.cscs 💪🏽 paired with @ultimatepotentialcbd_ 🍃 will be used these next couple of months while I heal 💯💯💯

2025 Pan Am M1 🟣 Purple Belt Champ

These past 2 years have been rough but I’m so grateful to be back on the competition mats 💯

It wasn’t easy, I won on criteria in the Quarters but started to turn it up every match after that. I don’t like just barely winning 💯

THANK YOU to my family, my teammates, and my sponsors!!! I’m nothing without you!!!!

THANK YOU to my opponents. It’s because of them that I was able to push myself and take what I’ve wanted for a LONG time 🙇🏽‍♂️🙇🏽‍♂️🙇🏽‍♂️

Are you a good teacher? 👨🏽‍🏫

Remember. People aren’t mind readers. Explain things like it’s your first time learning the subject matter and things should go over smoothly for you 💯

I’d like to make a special shoutout 🗣️ to my boy @masonamitrano.cscs for helping me both PREPARE and REPAIR my body for competition during this past year 💪🏽

I’ve had many ups and downs throughout this journey and he has helped me every step of the way 💯 I’ve hurt my knees 🦵🏽🦿 on MULTIPLE occasions through various different training sessions and competitions and every moment spent with him has helped improve my body for the better 🔥💪🏽🔥

This past Friday we began my recovery process in order to get me healthy for NoGi Worlds 🌎 in December. It’s amazing how a simple knee injury can limit your ability to generate strength unlike when you have a healthy body 🥲 Hopefully I’ll be back to normal in no time 💯

Mason. Thank you! You’re an amazing friend and an amazing coach!

Feel free to DM him if you’re looking to either improve your general health, heal from past injuries, or prepare for serious competition regardless of sport 💯

Mason takes clients in ✌🏽 places:

🔸 PROVIDENCE @deathkittydojo on 55 Porter St, Providence, RI

AND

🔸 EAST GREENWICH 5 Division St, East Greenwich, RI

And as always thank you @ultimatepotentialcbd_ for making recovery from each one of these workouts and injuries a blissful experience 🙌🏽

Chain Wrestling = Re-attacking 🔥

Whether it’s offense or defense, a chain-wrestler uses continuous motion to always look for a way to score 👨🏾‍🫯‍👨🏼

Scramble 🍳 🍳

Gotta be able to move even in the worst positions.

Here I blended wrestling and jiujitsu and went for a “Leg Pass” or “Funk Roll” as we so commonly refer to it in wrestling 👨🏾‍🫯‍👨🏼 I wasn’t able to score off of it but I was able to get myself outta trouble 🔥🔥🔥

My last submission at Pans was a Rear Naked Choke in the semifinals ☠️

All I can say is PRESSURE 🚂

This kid was probably the most technical and skilled person I faced throughout the entire tournament 💯 He was the only person to score on me as well 🔥

But relentless pressure and remaining calm when things weren’t going my way is what lead to my successful RNC finish 🙅🏽‍♂️

Most people would say that I shouldn’t have crossed my feet when going for the finish, but I’ve seen countless high level grapplers cross their feet when the time called for it - and this time happened to be just one of those moments 💯

I love back control and I pretty much NEVER cross my feet, but I could feel his hip starting to escape and KNEW the choke was already on much sooner than he did. If you pay attention, I kept a very loose and shallow grip when I crossed my feet and even attempted to slide a hook in on the inside of his top leg 🦵🏽 (actually a really good point of control)

High Risk = High Reward

Unless you have an incredible understanding of back control:

DO NOT CROSS YOUR FEET‼️

Somebody might actually break your ankles 😂

⭐️⭐️⭐️ What do you guys think⁉️ Is it ok to cross your feet from back control⁉️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⏱️ 20 seconds left to win a Pan Am Title 🥇

How good is the weakest part of your game? ✅

I know people don’t usually get to see me use my guard in competition but I use it all the time in the practice room 💯

The reason I spend so much time improving my guard is because of moments like these 🛡️ I hurt my knee during a wrestling exchange almost 90 seconds before this moment 👨🏾‍🫯‍👨🏼

After a failed armbar attempt I ended up on bottom and needed to use the “weakest” part of my game to win my 2nd Pan Am Gold 🥇🥇 and I did just that.

MORAL OF THIS POST:
Train in the worst possible positions for your style and learn to be comfortable there 💯💯💯
