PHENOMENAL. That’s the only word I can use to describe what my debut spoken word concert was.

A waterfront estate in Miami, twenty lyrical masterpieces, and a plate of my mother’s delicious vegan Jamaican food in every hand in a space full of my favorite faces while they lounged in the pool. I asked the universe for one night where I could tell the whole truth out loud and still be loved on the other side of it. This is what came back.

Our elders didn’t have mental health issues cuz they came up with fun sayings to bypass them. 😂

Nobody was depressed. They just “had a spell.” Nobody had anxiety. They had “bad nerves.” Nobody was in crisis. They “just needed to get out the house and get some air.”

Grandma had a full breakdown in 1996 but the family just calls it “when she went to Georgia for a while.” 😂 God bless em for doing their best.

Had way too much fun making this one at Vibrant Vegan Fest 😂 Nothing like getting a bunch of vegans together in one place and realizing we all have the same stories, the same jokes, and apparently the same emotional support reusable fork.

Such a good weekend of laughing, connecting, eating ridiculously well, and being around people who just get it. Community like this is special.
