What happens when we look beyond the usual suspects? In September, Alberta’s international cooperation community came together to explore exactly that — and what a time it was. Above are a few photos capturing the day. 🔎✨

The biggest takeaway? New partnerships don’t happen by simply inviting new people into old ways of working. They require us to think outside the box, share power, challenge familiar assumptions and create space for new voices, ideas and approaches. Thank you to everyone for showing up, asking hard questions and imagining what comes next. Now the real work begins: taking these conversations beyond the room and turning new connections into new possibilities. 🤝

This conference was funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada — thank you for supporting international cooperation in Alberta. A big shoutout to @ani.shoots as well for the great photos! by @acgc_now

October 5 is World Teachers' Day! Today, we celebrate the essential work of teachers across Alberta and worldwide, educating and inspiring future generations of global citizens. 💚

The 5 calls to action for Unsettling Global Citizen Education in the poster above were created by teachers at our 2024 Summer Institute. We're excited to share that the poster and resources are now available in French! Check them out at the link in bio. 🔗

Thank you to @the.artofchange for bringing these calls to action to life! 🎨

The Alberta Council for Global Cooperation is located on Treaty 6 Territory in amiskwacîwâskahikan, otherwise known as Edmonton. As we approach this National Day for Truth & Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, we remind ourselves that we are all treaty people, with roles to play in righting the historical wrongs that have taken place and are ongoing.

At ACGC we are committed to honouring the struggles and strengths of Indigenous Peoples and joining together to work towards truth and reconciliation and decolonization. Creating a just world for all means confronting the truths of the past and actively working toward a reconciled future.

ACGC will be closed on September 30 for our staff to participate in this important day. We've compiled a few resources we hope you'll find useful now and moving forward on a path to truth and reconciliation. To access the list of resources, visit the link in bio or linktr.ee/acgc_now 🧡 by @acgc_now

This year's ACGC conference, Beyond the Usual Suspects, is one week away! 🎉

This year's panel will inspire participants to think about stepping beyond the international development sector to make new partnerships. We're excited to welcome Ajay Aggarwal (Social Enterprise Fund, Edmonton Community Foundation), Dr. Chúk Odenigbo (@tamarack_inst), and Tariq Bhanjee (FaciliChange) as speakers and Lindsey Machona (Expand Hope) as moderator.

They'll share tips and tools for how organizations can speak about their impact in creative ways to capture new audiences; how to access and unlock a wider range of funding vehicles; and how to make use of innovative technologies and communication tools.

📅 View the full agenda and register to join us on Friday, September 18 at the link in bio or at acgc.ca/2026conference.

We have a great lineup of workshops for the 2026 Conference: Beyond the Usual Suspects next week! Not registered yet? Join us online or join the in-person waitlist at the link in bio or at acgc.ca/2026conference.

In the morning, Jim Delaney will facilitate Everybody at the Table: Partnerships beyond Funding. This session asks what it takes to build economic partnerships that are genuinely mutually beneficial: arrangements each party stays in because it serves them, not because someone is paying for the room.

💡 Expect to leave the session with the tools required to go beyond the usual suspects and make meaningful partnerships beyond traditional development actors.

In the afternoon, Amanda Henry (@ask_ystation) will lead an interactive session unpacking what generative AI is (and is not) and how to ensure a values-based approach to AI use. Together we will reflect on what AI incentivizes as well as the risks and opportunities AI is creating for mission-driven organizations.

💡 Expect to leave this conversation better equipped to develop responsible AI policy that communities can trust.

We’re very excited to announce this year’s keynote speaker: Roya Camille @royacamillemusic!

Roya Camille is a Northern Canadian singer-songwriter and music educator. In October 2025, Roya released her debut single No More War, an anthemic call for peace in a turbulent world. No More War has received CBC Radio One play, and won Best Music Video at the Toronto Women Film Festival, introducing Roya as a compelling, genre-bending new voice.

Her interdisciplinary performance-based keynote will weave together storytelling, poetry, song, and dance and invite you into an experience about the state of the world today. 🌍️🌏️🌎️

🔗 Find the full session description online at the link in bio or at acgc.ca/2026conference.
