Alice is a bundle of joy, sensitivity and thoughtfulness. As accommodating as they are technical, their classes are rooted and embellished with their many years of experience across the circus arts.

Their favourite spot in the neighbourhood is Proposition gallery next door, which is always filled with loads of cool free exhibitions with interesting installations, which are often nature-based.

This is part of a series called Our People. Our Place. shot by studio regular and teacher @lizseabrook by @acidmaia

I’ve been experiencing a strange disembodiment from my movement practice over recent months, where I don’t recognise the feel of my equipment in my hands, or even my reflection in the mirror. When something as rich and complex as human creativity converges with productivity/work/career, obstacles emerge on the path.

When the outside world fails to meet expectations, sense of self crumbles. Confidence wanes and disappointment swallows me whole. Shame rears its sharp tongue: 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘶𝘳𝘦, 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘦, 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩, 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦…

The thoughts become deafening and it becomes harder to remember that time isn’t linear. That success isn’t a monolith. That devotion to the right questions is more freeing than any answer I could unearth.

And some days I walk into training and play like a child dappled in sunlight. Nothing to prove. Nothing but the sanctity of this moment. Now.

Love to any artists who can relate to this.
