"And I will try, to fix you". The story and song of my life it seems. And I couldn't be more grateful or thankful to be able to do this each day. Death is inevitable, sure. but Life -can be magical. I dropped this little one back to his mother after the team removed maggots from his leg. His caregiver is an 11 year old boy, Vihaan. He must have asked me at least 30 questions while HiS mama gently pleaded with him to allow me to go back home. She thought I would get fed up - little does she realise just how much hope and relief her son brings me- to be passing it on. To know there will be many more of us, looking out for those who need a little help from their friends. by @ack20

The Honda Mobilio arrived on the very same day that Neighbourhood Woof was registered, also Rahul's Baba's birthday. My dad's old Baleno that I inherited in excellent condition retired at 15 as it was required to and I must add should have as well, having done 100s of snip trips, it's once spotless upholstery reduced to well, let's not go there. So then came the Mobilio- an affordable, sturdy seven seater keeping in mind our requirements and future plans of travel with the dogs to the mountains. Rahul , really not one for romanticising about cars, named her The Hounda spontaneously on this trip and burst into song. 12 years on she is still taking us on vacations and for this we have our lovely crazy friend Vikram Mishra to thank for all his wisdom and experience about all things wheel.

Part 2 - Lycopodium arrived in our lives as a four month old , Jess to the girls and Laika to the boys at the Ramjas College hostels. She nearly lost a limb when she got run over by a motorcycle. Improper treatment caused it to swell up so much the doctor suggested amputation. We took her to our trusted Doc and he taught us how to bandage her leg and suggested IV medication twice a day to save her leg. Through these daily processes, Rahul sat beside her holding her still, singing to keep her calm. Laika became Lycopodium and that became her name. The song remained the only one she sang to, all her life. We saved her leg, and she made many trips over 10 years to the hills, even spending the night in a tent as far as the Pangong Tso ! If you ever scolded her, she would promptly hold up her paw, and limp to remind us about the terrible times she had been through. She was such a friendly, kind, happy dog , no trouble at all in any way. We didn't have the heart to abandon her to the streets again. She became a firm part of our family - making us laugh with her quirks, surprising us often with her boldness.

The girls usually insist I lie flat on my back - this gives them both equal access to my arms. Once they fall asleep, I spring up to do all I cannot do when they are up -( write fundraising posts for Nw 🫡)
I love to imagine that Habibi has understood this and has taken my place, except I know better - she seems to sleep only in the craziest of positions that would give most yoga enthusiasts a routine ! Whatever it is , watching her gives me a backache - I envy her flexibility and then I also have to figure out , how to get back to bed . by @ack20

We meet completely by chance every time I visit the town he lives in. The first time we met, he wasn't so sure - ( tujh jaise bahut dekhe hain) but he had me at first glance . The white and brown is my soft spot, this is no secret. But now we are familiar friends - he rolls his eyes at my jokes and laughs at my advances. But then jokes apart, our shoulders touch. For me , it's reassurance that the world is not ALL wrong, that some creatures are lucky enough to stay safe, find love, people and a home. Not get killed in some undignified way. For him, he's just a plain old flirt 😜 by @ack20

Turns out saving animals — real or cardboard — starts the same way: education. Delighted by the school we have selected, delivered completely online that has in the very first three months, in KG2 reinforced kindness and compassion towards animals. by @ack20

Grey days be like. 4 decades of being in love with the species and I still can't get enough. Everyday , they give me reason to marvel at them- how smart yet incredibly silly they can be, how happy they are to just be themselves in your presence and how they learn to know more about you than any human is capable of.
Meet George, dumped with his siblings on the road. Then abandoned within a day of being adopted because 'mere bete pet ke liye zidd kar raha tha'
Never mind. I am not angry anymore. I am just glad, I got the chance to change this story. Home, now. Whatever life throws at us , we have this ❤️

It's perhaps time to introduce you to the youngest of our pack - George, Andrea and Habibi. I will leave you to imagine the affairs of our home when they aren't sitting quietly as they are here. George's expression should be your first clue. Andrea's look of contentment coupled with that very determined ear should be your second clue. And finally, Habibi's exhaustion should leave no doubt - the rest of us have left the building 😆😆 by @ack20

Once the baby of our home, darling delicate Antikuppe was Lufi's dog. For 11 of her 14 years, she has found her confidence and comfort in Lufi's shadow. After her passing, we watched Kuppe pine for Lufi to the point that her immunity was compromised. With a lot of tlc from us and a medical checkup that has put her on a prescription for heart medication, she has flourished into a fine greedy little grandma ! I say greedy because she now eats like there is no tomorrow , a trait I have noticed in senior dogs. There is nothing that quite compares to watching your dog's loyalty naturally extend to your children and vice versa. Lufi did not let my girls out of her sight, signing out from life in their room infact. Kuppe now belongs to the girls, playing much of the role I know Lufi played in their lives and would have continued to had she any say in the matter. by @ack20

For those of you who know me well, sabzi khareedna is something I am neither good at nor do I like doing, other than appreciating their colors from a distance. But in the hills, I can't help myself because the grocers are so handsome 🙂 by @ack20
